Yahoo DFS Baseball: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Corey Kluber, CLE vs NYY ($58): It's not often that I target a pitcher against the Yankees, but if Jordan Zimmermann can shut them down, then Kluber certainly has a chance to. Kluber has been outstanding the entire season, and his K rate has remained steady throughout. Kluber has posted double-digit strikeouts in eight of his past nine starts and he's only surrendered more than three runs once in that span. The Yankees have plenty of firepower, but with Aaron Judge losing some consistency and guys like Matt Holliday slumping, they aren't quite as dangerous as they were earlier in the season.

Michael Wacha, STL at MIL ($45): Wacha is rarely a safe pick, but up against the Brewers, he does have plenty of upside. Wacha is averaging 18.4 points per game on the season, but he's scored at least 24.6 in five of his past six starts. Milwaukee has plenty of firepower as well, but they also have the highest K rate against righties this season, so even if they managed to score a few runs, chances are Wacha will get his fair share of strikeouts.

CATCHER

Caleb Joseph, BAL vs DET ($9): Detroit starter Matt Boyd has had an interesting season, rarely getting shelled, but seldom shutting the opposition down either. He somehow manages to stay in that three or four runs per game range almost every start. While that's not great for stacking purposes, it is good for picking your spots with the opposition. Joseph is one of those spots as he comes cheap and he's fared well against lefties this season. Joseph enters with a .366 wOBA against lefties this season, which is second on the O's.

FIRST BASE

Eric Hosmer, KC vs SEA ($23): Yovani Gallardo always seems on the edge of disaster, but for the most part, he's managed to avoid it lately. That could change tonight as he faces a hot Royals team. Though they started the season very slowly, the Royals have produced at a high level over the past couple months and Hosmer has been a big reason for that improvement. Hosmer enters with a .380 wOBA against righties this season, which leads the Royals.

SECOND BASE

Jose Altuve, HOU at DET ($26): The Rays have done a pretty good job holding down the Astros lineup in this series, but it's only a matter of time before they break out again. Altuve has struggled in this series as well, but with lefty Blake Snell on the mound, he's sure to put up some big numbers. Snell has done a good job of avoiding blowups this season, but he's always good for giving up multiple runs. Altuve enters with a .412 wOBA against lefties this season, which leads all active Astros.

THIRD BASE

Ryon Healy, OAK at SF ($8): Healy is an inexpensive option with high upside as he faces another lefty in Ty Blach. Healy was in a similar situation last night when he faced Matt Moore and he came through with a big game. Blach has been erratic this season and enters with a 4.38 ERA. Healy enters with a .457 wOBA against lefties this season, which leads the A's and is top 10 in the majors.

SHORTSTOP

Jean Segura, SEA at KC ($17): Trevor Cahill went from a guy to stack against to a guy you'd consider starting, but over his past four starts, he's looked more like the guy to stack against. Cahill has surrendered four of more runs in three of his past four starts, which includes his lone start with his new team, the Royals. Segura has been a consistent force in the Mariner lineup all season and he's fared very well against righties. Segura enters with a .347 wOBA against righties this season.

OUTFIELD

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs NYM ($27): Whenever the Rockies are in the midst of a home stand, I feel a bit like a broken record mentioning their players every day, but when they are facing poor pitching, I have to at least put one of them on here. With righty Rafael Montero on the mound for the Mets, the top target on the Rockies is going to be Charlie Blackmon. Blackmon enters with a .404 wOBA against righties this season.

Mikie Mahtook, DET at BAL ($15): As a backup, Mahtook wasn't producing at a very high level, but since joining the starting lineup he's really taken off. Mahtook enters with a .359 wOBA against righties this season, which leads the Tigers. The Tigers face Chris Tillman, who pitched well for a short stretch before regressing in his most recent start. Tillman enters with a 7.65 ERA on the season.

Leury Garcia, CHW at BOS ($14): Rick Porcello has struggled to find his Cy Young form this season and while he looked pretty good a couple weeks ago, he again appears to be on the wrong track entering this game. Porcello surrendered four runs in seven innings in his most recent outing against the Royals. The White Sox aren't very good against righties as a team, but Garcia has fared well against righties this season. Garcia enters with a .359 wOBA against righties this season.
