FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Gio Gonzalez, WAS vs. MIA ($8,900): Gonzalez has been dominant at home, owning a 2.02 ERA and 26.5 percent strikeout rate. He also has allowed just six runs in 29.1 innings since the All-Star break, fanning 22 in that span and is coming off an eight-inning, one-hit performance against the Marlins. For good measure, Gonzalez has faced Miami three times already this season, allowing three runs and 14 hits while striking out 20 in 21.0 innings.

Catcher

Cameron Rupp, PHI at ATL ($2,400): Rupp's .347 wOBA and 113 wRC+ speak for themselves at a bargain price and second-tier position, but his appeal is furthered by a 16.5 percent walk rate. Braves' starter Sean Newcomb hasn't found the zone much over his last three starts, walking 15 batters across 15.2 frames.

First Base

Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. PHI ($4,000): Freeman hasn't been as automatic since the All-Star break, but still carries a .387 wOBA, 138 wRC+ and .921 OPS against righties since July 14. Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff has been tough on righties (.293 wOBA), but lefties have earned a .356 clip, seemingly giving Freeman a safe floor at the worst.

Second Base

Yangervis Solarte, SDP at CIN ($2,500): This game checks in as one of just three on the slate with a double-digit total, and that gives Solarte a chance to outperform his price tag. He's showing plenty of positive momentum, going 8-for-20 in his last five games after an 0-for-10 start to his second half after being activated from the DL, and has an overall .343 wOBA and 113 wRC+ against righties.

Third Base

Rafael Devers, BOS at TAM ($3,300): Devers has hit safely in eight of 11 games since his promotion, going deep three times in the process, all of which have come against opposite-handed hitters. Rays' starter Jake Odorizzi is allowing lefties to post a .374 wOBA and .580 SLG at home

Shortstop

Zack Cozart, CIN vs. SDP ($3,300): Cozart is 3-for-8 with a homer, two RBI and three runs scored in two games since returning from the disabled list. That, paired with a juicy matchup against lefty Travis Wood makes for a nice play at a position sorely lacking upside. Cozart leads Reds regulars with a .490 and 203 wRC+ against southpaws.

Outfield

Domingo Santana, MIL vs. MIN ($3,500): It's a tough spot to pick on Twins starter Bartolo Colon, as the Brewers have topped three runs just seven times in 23 games since the All-Star break. Santana may offer the safest combo of floor/ceiling, bringing a .356 wOBA and 115 wRC+ into the contest with a mid-tier price tag; all while Colon has allowed a .407 wOBA to same-handed hitters.

Carlos Beltran, HOU at CWS ($3,100): Picking on White Sox starter Miguel Gonzalez, the slate's lowest-priced arm, seems too obvious, especially when facing one of the league's top offenses. Beltran could be the road less traveled here; he's seen a fountain of youth since the All-Star break, owning a .396 wOBA and 154 wRC+ since July 14 against righties. And while it's a small sample size, he's 5-of-12 with four extra-base hits against Gonzalez. The price, paired with likely low ownership and current form make Beltran a great tournament gamble.

Byron Buxton, MIN at MIL ($2,400): Buxton has quietly hit in four straight, and in 6-of-8 since his activation from the DL at the beginning of the month. He's stolen two bases, scored twice and driven in one in that span. His current form lends itself to a nice GPP play, while his price suggests little risk in cash games at the same time.
