Bill Veeck has nothing on Effa Manley. Who's Effa Manley, you ask? Effa, a Negro League owner, is the first woman elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and the creator of such ballpark festivities as "Anti-Lynching Day." Anti-Lynching Day? That has to be the best ballpark promotion ever. Congrats to Effa.

Congrats to Manley, but why no O'Neil and Minoso?

Cristobal Torriente, Biz Mackey and Mule Suttles all got selected; in their prime, they were perhaps the best sluggers in the game, of any color. O'Neill's really not in that class; while he's been a credit to game in serving as the unofficial oral historian-poet laureate for the Negro Leagues, had he passed away thirty years ago, his name likely wouldn't be coming up here. Minoso was always going to be difficult to judge because of how his career got split between the Negro leagues and the desegegated majors, with no big career numbers on either side of the split.
