Injuries for Teams Playing Tuesday
Day-to-Day (Including DL players close to returning)
Niklas Backstrom (G) Minnesota-(Knee) Is expected to miss the game against New Jersey on Tuesday night, and if so Jose Theodore will get the start.
Steve Downie (F) Tampa Bay- (Ankle) There is speculation that Downie will return to the lineup tonight for the first time since early December.
Randy Jones (D) Tampa Bay-(Upper Body Injury) Jones could return to the lineup this evening against Washington.
Cody McLeod (F) Colorado- (Groin) McLeod is considered to be day-to-day as he is dealing with a groin injury.
Brad Stuart (D) Detroit-(Head) There are reports that Stuart will return to the lineup tonight, which will help the team as they are battling with all kinds of injury problems.
Long Term or IR
Daniel Cleary (F) Detroit-(Ankle) Cleary will be out of the Detroit lineup indefinitely after breaking his ankle in a game on December 23rd.
Pavel Datsyuk (F) Detroit-(Broken Right Hand) Datsyuk is still expected to miss at least a few weeks after suffering a broken right hand in recent action.
Nick Bonino (F)Anaheim- Assigned to Syracuse of the AHL.
Linus Omark (F) Edmonton- Recalled from Oklahoma City of the AHL.
Liam Reddox (F) Edmonton- Recalled from Oklahoma City of the AHL.
Ryan McDonagh (D) New York Rangers- Recalled from Connecticut of the AHL.
Michael Del Zotto (D) New York Rangers- Assigned to Connecticut of the AHL.
Michael Leighton (G) Philadelphia- Placed on Waivers.
Mikkel Boedker (F) Phoenix- Assigned to San Antonio of the AHL.
Deryk Engelland (D) Pittsburgh- Signed a three year contract extension with the Penguins.
Andrew Desjardins (F) San Jose- Recalled from Worcester of the AHL.
Tommy Wingels (F) San Jose- Assigned to Worcester of the AHL.
Mike Green (D) Washington- Green has had his fair share of ups and downs on the season already, but he has now started to pick up the pace with points in four straight games. If you own him, then sit and wait as he could get himself back to his status as an elite blueliner. If you don't own Green, then you may be able to buy low on him in a trade with a frustrated owner.
Shane Doan (F) Phoenix- Doan had a very slow start to the year, and there were many fantasy owners that considered his fantasy value to be all but non-existent at this stage in his career. However, Doan has quietly picked up a point in his last 6 games and was named the second star of the week in the NHL over the holidays. He may be available on the waiver wire, and if so he definitely deserves a roster spot at this point in the season.
Alex Ovechkin (F) Washington- It is really hard to ever consider Ovechkin as being cold, as he has the ability to lit the lamp at any time and absolutely take over a game. However, Ovechkin has just 14 goals in 40 games so far this season which puts him on pace for just 29 goals. That would easily be his lowest total ever, and hardly warrants the first overall pick that many fantasy owners used to pick him up.
Kevin Shattenkirk (D) Colorado- Shattenkirk has really stepped up and helped the Avalanche deal with their growing injury problems, but is still available in most leagues. He has now tallied 19 points overall on the season and is really provided unexpected value from the backend. If you need help on D, make the move for Shattenkirk now and hope he keeps up his current pace.
