Yahoo DFS Hockey: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Four-game slates require a unique take for daily fantasy hockey.

Rolling with the red-hot Panthers will be a popular strategy Wednesday, and Aleksander Barkov ($27), Jonathan Huberdeau ($27) and Jaromir Jagr (25) are all on extended hot streaks.

They're worth a long look, but just note, this is Florida's fifth road game in the past eight nights, and after losing Monday, the helium could be escaping from their ascent up the standings.

Additionally, the Columbus-Toronto game doesn't have a peaceful easy feeling to it, as both lineups have undergone talent purges via injuries and trades. Yes, it could become high-scoring, but determining where the goals will come from is the concern.

With those notes in mind, the skater selections focus on the other five teams in the player pool.

GOALIE

John Gibson, ANA vs. OTT ($38) - The price is steep, but Gibson's play warrants it heading into a prime matchup. Ottawa has lost six of its past eight games at the Honda Center and 11 of the past 15 meetings against Anaheim overall. Also, Ottawa is averaging just 1.6 goals per game over its past five, while Gibson has a .927 save percentage and 1.87 goals-against average at home through 12 games.

Goalie to avoid:

Joonas Korpisalo, CLS at TOR ($24) - The savings are attractive, but Korpisalo has allowed exactly four goals in each of his past three games, and Columbus is on the wrong end of back-to-back road games after losing 5-2 to the Islanders on Tuesday. Toronto averages 3.0 goals per game at home, too.

CENTER

Sean Monahan, CGY vs. FLA ($18) - While likely viewed as an against-the-grain option, Monahan has strung together a few hot stretches this season and appears to be kick-starting another. He has a goal, an assist and nine shots on goal over his past two games. Florida finally lost Monday, and will playing its fifth road game in eight nights against Calgary. There is sneaky value here.

Center to avoid:

Sean Couturier, PHI vs. BOS ($22) - Currently surging along the best offensive run of his career, Couturier has six goals and six assists with a plus-12 rating and 28 shots on net in his past 10 games. The issue lies in his inflated cap hit, which is the exact same as No. 1 pivot Claude Giroux ($22). This is a sell-high spot with Couturier, as he has never performed at this level before.

WING

Corey Perry, ANA vs. OTT ($27) - The goals are finally starting to add up for Perry with six through his past nine games and 37 shots on net. The matchup here is ripe, too; Ottawa allows 3.32 goals per game on the road and 3.20 over its past five, and the Senators kill penalties at just 76.2 percent. It all stacks up nicely given Perry has 14 goals and five assists through 22 home games this season.

Micheal Ferland, CGY vs. FLA ($12) - A personal favorite among the deep sleepers, Ferland is a throw-back power forward with an underrated shooting arsenal. He is coming off a two-point game -- 20:55 minutes of ice -- skating on the No. 1 line with Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau ($26), and Ferland has a goal and three helpers over his past five games.

Wing to avoid:

Loui Eriksson, BOS at PHI ($21) - Through the first three months of the season, few players have been as consistent offensively while flying as far under the radar as Eriksson. The script appears to be flipping, though, as he has a single goal and no assists in his past five games, and the loss of David Krejci (upper body) is starting to have an impact on the offense. Boston is averaging just 1.8 goals per game over its past five games.

DEFENSEMAN

Michael Del Zotto, PHI vs. BOS ($18) - With Shayne Gostisbehere (lower body) already ruled out, look for Del Zotto to continuing receiving extended minutes. Over his past two outings, he has averaged 25:30 minutes of ice time and scored two goals and added a helper with a plus-3 rating and eight shots on net. Additionally, Mark Streit ($14) has replaced Gostisbehere on the No. 1 power-play unit, and Streit is another cheaper option.

Defenseman to avoid:

Erik Karlsson, OTT at ANA ($28) - The second-most expensive skater in the player pool is an elite defenseman, but you'll have to make serious sacrifices through the remainder of your lineup to slide him under the salary cap. Karlsson is regularly playing north of 30 minutes, which is going to eventually take a toll, and while four assists through his past six games is excellent production, his minus-4 rating eats away at the profit room quickly.
