Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

It is a quieter Tuesday in the National Hockey League with just eight games.

Anaheim and Dallas are the lone teams playing consecutive road games in back-to-back nights, but both clubs are cruising and neither spot should be downgraded significantly because of their schedule spot.

Additionally, there is a potential Stanley Cup preview in Washington hosting the Kings, and the San Jose-Tampa Bay bout not only carries coast-to-coast intrigue, but showcases two teams peaking down the stretch.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, WAS vs. LA ($37) - Simply put, the Vezina frontrunner is 35-6-3 this season with a high-end .926 save percentage and 2.16 goals-against average. There have been a few hiccups recently with 10 goals allowed in his past three starts, and many will worry about the matchup against Los Angeles. However, the Kings are also playing their fifth road game in eight nights, and Washington will be prepared in this tape-measuring matchup.

Goalie to avoid:

Martin Jones, SJ at TB ($38) - The Lightning have been excellent at Amalie Arena over the past three seasons with a 75-27-9 record, and Tampa Bay is finally back at full health. All said, despite Jones' exceptional play of late (10-2-1 record with a .929 save percentage and two shutouts), there are just too many safer options to utilize Tuesday, especially is relation to the hefty cap hit.

CENTER

Kyle Turris, OTT vs. BUF ($13) - It has been a prolonged funk for Turris. He has sandwiched his lower-body injury with just six points -- one goal -- in his last 23 games with an atrocious minus-18 rating and no points in his five games since returning from injury. Buffalo has allowed 2.78 goals per road game and 3.8 over its past five outings, too.

Center to avoid:

Anze Kopitar, LA at WAS ($32) - As mentioned, the Kings are in the midst of a daunting road trip, and they were shut out Sunday. So, while Kopitar exploded for a rare hat trick Friday and has been on an extended hot streak dating back to mid-November, Washington allows just 2.19 goals per home game and presents a fade-worthy matchup. Plus, Kopitar is the most expensive pivot on the board.

WINGS

Corey Perry, ANH at EDM ($26) - With 12 goals, eight assists and 71 shots on net in his last 23 games, Perry is a strong value lean against the Oilers. Edmonton has allowed 3.6 goals per game over its past five outings and is killing penalties at just 80.3 percent for the season.

Nikolaj Ehlers, WPG at CAR ($16) - The freshman has hurdled the rookie wall and is up to seven goals, six helpers and 37 shots in his last 15 games. Plus, Ehlers is rolling with the No. 1 line and has a 3.77 goals per 60 minutes mark with Blake Wheeler and a 3.74 mark with Bryan Little. The trio is clicking.

Wing to avoid:

Jordan Eberle, EDM vs. ANH ($24) - Make no mistake, Eberle's fantasy value is skyrocketing next to Connor McDavid. You're paying a premium price for that exposure, though, and Anaheim has allowed the third-fewest goals in the league this season. Additionally, the McDavid-Eberle stack is chalky and not at the discount it was just a week ago.

DEFENSEMEN

Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI at NJ ($23) - The cap hit hasn't fully caught up to his recent surge in the point column or uptick in minutes. The minutes are the key, though. Gostisbehere has played at least 22 minutes in five of his last six games, and with ice time equalling opportunity, the expanded role should enable Swayze to continue being a high-end offensive defenseman.

David Schlemko, NJ vs. PHI ($14) - While potentially difficult to trust, Schlemko is averaging 21:24 minutes of ice time with 2:38 minutes of power-play time through his past 10 games. And during the span, he has three goals, four helpers, 19 shots and 13 blocked shots, which is incredible production at his cap hit.

Defenseman to avoid:

Alec Martinez, LA at WAS ($21) - Martinez has only found the score sheet once in his past four outings, and while he is a solid cross-category contributor, he is a little pricey above $20. The Capitals allow just 2.19 goals per home game, too, so it is far from a solid matchup, especially in the middle of a lengthy road tip.
