This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.
The main contests at Yahoo are comprised of the eight evening games beginning at 7 p.m. EST. It's always worth scrolling all the way through the player pool because some solid players can jump out at -- or near -- minimum price. With that said, here are some targets, fades and values to consider when assembling your lineups.
GOALIE
Carter Hutton, STL vs. WPG ($26): At this salary, Hutton is a potential low-priced flier with upside. However, he's been awful of late with three consecutive losses, an .845 save percentage and 4.33 GAA during the span. While home-road splits aren't always predictors of future results, the Jets have scored just 2.08 goals per road game this season, and the Blues have been excellent at the Scottrade Center with a 11-1-2 record. Just don't confuse Hutton for a risk-free start.
Goalie to Avoid
Antti Niemi, DAL at COL ($27): The Stars have been allowing 4.07 goals per road game, and Saturday's bout is Dallas' fourth away game in six nights. They've lost the first three, and Niemi has a disastrous 5.07 GAA on the road this year. As noted, home-road splits don't etch future results in stone, but the Stars allow the fourth-most scoring chances per 60 minutes (22.75) in the league.
CENTER
Tyler Seguin, DAL at COL ($30): Over the past four years, Seguin has 259 points -- 115 goals -- through 248 games, and his 3.23 points per 60 minutes rank fourth in the league during the span among skaters with at least 4,000 minutes. Meanwhile, the Avalanche have allowed 2.95 goals per game this season.
Center to Avoid
Jonathan Marchessault, FLA at OTT ($19): The pint-sized forward has been solid all season with 2.6 points per 60 minutes, but he's beginning to slow down. Marchessault still has five points -- two goals -- over his past nine games, but this is a tough matchup. Ottawa is allowing the ninth-fewest high-danger scorer chances per 60 minutes (9.27) and eighth-fewest goals per game (2.46).
WING
Vladimir Tarasenko, STL vs. WPG ($29): The star winger has the fourth-highest points (3.17) and third-highest shots (11.72) per 60 minutes among skaters with at least 3,000 minutes over the past three seasons. With the Jets allowing 3.0 goals per game this season, Tarasenko is lineup lock in the favorable matchup against Winnipeg.
Jakub Vrana, WAS at TAM ($12): At minimum price, Vrana is a solid low-priced option against the Lightning. Tampa Bay has allowed 19 goals over its past four games, too. The rookie winger is expected to play top-six minutes and receive power-play looks, and he has scored 50 points over his past 54 games in the AHL.
Wingers to Avoid
Blake Wheeler, WPG at STL ($23): With an 87th-ranked 1.27 points per 60 minutes at five-on-five this year, Wheeler's salary is a little hefty considering the difficult matchup. The Blues are 11-1-2 at home and allowed the third-fewest scoring chances per 60 minutes (18.95).
Thomas Vanek, DET at PIT ($19): Since returning from a hip injury, Vanek has just two assists and 11 shots on net over six games. He's in a daunting matchup, too, as the Penguins have allowed eight fewer goals at home this season and have a 9-2-1 record at PPG Paints Arena.
DEFENSEMEN
Cam Fowler, ANA at EDM ($19): Currently averaging the most ice time of his career (23:55), Fowler also sports personal bests in points (0.63) and shots (2.13) per game. He also has the 13-ranked 1.57 points per 60 minutes among defenseman with at least 400 minutes this year. Plus, Edmonton has allowed the second-most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes (12.32) in the league.
Ben Hutton, VAN vs. TOR ($14): Over his past seven games, Hutton has two goals, five points, 17 shots and 18 blocked shots while averaging 23:04 of ice with 2:01 on the man advantage. The Maple Leafs are allowing the fifth-most scoring chances per 60 minutes (22.73), too.
Defensemen to Avoid
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, ARI vs. CLM ($20): While 16 games removed from his last multi-point showing, Ekman-Larsson still has a respectable seven points, 32 shots and 15 blocked shots during the span. However, the issue here is a offensive juggernaut he opposes. The Blue Jackets average the second-most goals per game (3.18) and the third-most scoring chances per 60 minutes (23.55), so considering Ekman-Larsson's modest production, it's a spot to fade him.
Jacob Trouba, WPG at STL ($19): As noted, the Blues has been stingy at Scottrade Center and drive possession with a fourth-ranked 53.1 Corsi for percentage at home. Trouba has been solid in the peripheral statistics (21 shots and 27 blocked shots over 11 games) and is logging huge minutes (23:59 with 1:50 on the power play), but it's not supported offensively. There are defensemen with more upside and facing more favorable fantasy matchups in Trouba's price range Saturday.
