NHL Waiver Wire: Late Christmas Presents

NHL Waiver Wire: Late Christmas Presents

This article is part of our NHL Waiver Wire series.

There are no games in the NHL on Monday, so the majority of teams will take the ice three times this week. Anaheim and Washington are the only clubs with four games scheduled, and the Oilers and Blues will only play twice.

With consecutive short weeks sandwiching the holiday break, it isn't the right time to fork out big FAAB dollars. However, if you're in need of goaltending help and Andrei Vasilevskiy is available, he's the exception to the rule.

Remember to double-check the availability of players previously covered in this space and check the recommended adds in our Daily Puck articles throughout the week.

Bobby Ryan, RW, OTT (Yahoo: 49%, ESPN: 62%, CBS: 73%): With four goals and six points through his past six games, the notoriously streaky winger is heating up. Ryan was likely owned in the majority of leagues, but a dreadful 16-game stretch with two goals and four points might have him available in more leagues than you'd think.

Mikael Granlund, C/RW, MIN (Yahoo: 23%, ESPN: 30%, CBS: 36%): Already poised for a career-best showing offensively, Granlund has upped his offensive production of late with three goals and 11 points over his past nine games. Minnesota is proving to be a high-end club, and Granlund led all Wild forwards in ice time Friday.

Jake Gardiner, D, TOR (Yahoo: 36%, ESPN: 32%, CBS: 62%): With two goals, eight points and 20 shots through his past eight games, Gardiner is back on the fantasy radar

Jake Gardiner, D, TOR (Yahoo: 36%, ESPN: 32%, CBS: 62%): With two goals, eight points and 20 shots through his past eight games, Gardiner is back on the fantasy radar and warrants attention in the majority of fantasy leagues. The 26-year-old defenseman is just entering his offensive prime.

Andrei Vasilevskiy, G, TAM (Yahoo: 64%, ESPN: 48%, CBS: 71%): Don't fret Vasilevskiy's poor outing against Washington on Friday. Starting two games in consecutive nights is a fantasy nightmare, and especially against a high-end team. Vasilevskiy will see the lion's share of starts for the Bolts going forward, and he could steal the No. 1 job in the process. He should be universally owned.

Four-game streamers

Hampus Lindholm, D, ANA (Yahoo: 40%, ESPN: 47%, CBS: 59%): Now in his fourth season in the league, Lindholm's real-world impact doesn't completely translate to fantasy results, but he's still a potential flier for the week. He has cross-category upside with 30 shots, 31 blocked shots and 35 hits through 22 games this season.

Jakub Vrana, F, WAS (Yahoo: 1%, ESPN: 1%, CBS: 13%): Vrana's had a hit-or-miss start to his NHL career with three points in 11 games, but his scoring pedigree shouldn't go unnoticed. The young Czech owns 25 goals and 55 points through 57 AHL games, after all. Still, he's nothing more than a flier in deep settings.
