DraftKings NHL: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

The main contests at DraftKings consist of Sunday's five evening games beginning at 5 p.m. ET. Here are a handful of players across multiple price ranges to consider while assembling your lineups.

GOALIE

James Reimer, FLA vs. OTT ($7,700): With a 5-1 record, 935 save percentage and 1.89 GAA through his past seven games, look for Reimer to stay hot against the injury-riddled Senators. Ottawa is on the front end of a back-to-back road set and is likely to be without its three best wingers, and the Senators have generated a league-low 8.6 high-danger scoring chances through their past 10 games. Reimer's salary opens plenty of spending room, and the Panthers need this game to avoid a three-game losing skid on home ice.

CENTER

Aleksander Barkov, FLA vs. OTT ($6,600): The star pivot has found the scoresheet in seven of nine games since returning from injury for seven goals, 10 points and 22 shots. He's averaged 19:47 of ice time with 2:39 on the power play during that span, and Ottawa won't be icing its best club Sunday.

Martin Hanzal, ARI vs. BUF ($4,800): The veteran pivot has notched seven goals, 11 points and 42 shots through his past 14 games, and Arizona grabs Buffalo on the wrong end of back-to-back road games. The Sabres lost 5-3 to Colorado on Saturday, so look to Hanzal as a solid value option in a favorable schedule spot.

WING

Filip Forsberg, NAS vs. EDM ($6,400): Forsberg's hot stretch has longer legs than his seven goals through the past three games. He's netted 21 tallies on 106 shots over his past 34 outings, so despite his more recent scorching hot run, this salary isn't prohibitive enough. Additionally, the Oilers have allowed the sixth-most high-danger scoring chances in the league this season (11.54) and are playing their fifth consecutive road game.

Radim Vrbata, ARI vs. BUF ($5,300): The veteran pivot is quietly having another respectable campaign with a 27th-ranked 2.53 points and fifth-ranked 10.71 shots per 60 minutes among all skaters with at least 1,000 minutes. As noted, this is a potentially soft matchup for Arizona, and Vrbata pairs with linemate Martin Hanzal as an affordable stack. Vrbata is also scoring well of late with three goals, nine points and 26 shots through his past eight games.

Nick Schmaltz, CHI vs. STL ($3,900): Clicking alongside Jonathan Toews, Schmaltz has three goals, nine points and nine shots over his past seven games. It's a tough matchup, but Schmaltz and Toews have also combined for a monster 4.57 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five this year, and the pivot is Schmaltz's most frequent linemate. The savings alone make Schmaltz an attractive option.

DEFENSE

Roman Josi, NAS vs. EDM ($6,000): With Edmonton's defensive struggles, look for Josi to stay hot Sunday. The stalwart rearguard has caught fire and found the scoresheet in eight of his past nine games for six goals, 12 points, 30 shots and 20 blocked shots while averaging 24:32 of ice time (2:34 on the power play). This salary doesn't match Josi's recent form.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, ARI vs. BUF ($4,800): With a manageable salary, Ekman-Larsson is another option to consider against the Sabres. The rearguard entered this season with a third-ranked 0.58 goals and 11th-ranked 1.42 points per 60 minutes among all defensemen with at least 5,000 minutes over the prior three years, so his downtick in offense should have some positive regression ahead. This is a buy-low spot with Ekman-Larsson also sporting a four-game point drought.
