FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Playoff Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Playoff Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

There are two games in the NHL on Wednesday. The Ducks visit Edmonton hoping to evening their series at 2-2, and the Capitals are in Pittsburgh looking to do the same. Here are a number of FanDuel selections to consider from Wednesday's shallow player pool.

GOALIE

Cam Talbot, EDM vs. ANA ($8,300): The last time Talbot had a poor outing, he won the next four games with a .940 save percentage and 1.86 GAA. Edmonton has been outplayed the past two games, but this series has the makings of a lengthy back-and-forth battle. There aren't any easy choices in nets Wednesday, so Talbot's potential low ownership in a bounce-back spot has potential.

CENTER

Evgeni Malkin, PIT vs. WAS ($8,900): Pittsburgh is going to miss Sidney Crosby (concussion), but Malkin has consistently risen to the occassion without No. 87 in the lineup. In 118 games with Crosby sidelined, Malkin has 66 goals and 88 assists. The Russian center also has six multi-point games during the playoffs for four goals and 15 points over eight contests.

Evgeny Kuznetsov, WAS at PIT ($6,000): Coming off his first multi-point showing of the playoffs, look for Kuznetsov to continue his strong postseason run (three gals, three assists and 31 shots through nine games). He should see a few more favorable in-game matchups with Pittsburgh dealing with multiple injuries to key players, too. The Pens have also allowed the most high-danger scoring chances at five-on-five (11.55) of any remaining playoff team.

WING

Phil Kessel, PIT vs. WAS ($7,800): The Malkin-Kessel duo has been dangerous all postseason, and the winger has 10 points -- three goals -- and 21 shots through his past six games. Kessel has also established himself as a go-to postseason scorer with 27 goals and 55 points through 54 career playoff games.

Marcus Johansson, WAS at PIT ($4,800): Somewhat quietly, Johansson has collected two goals and six points through his past eight games. It's a nice follow-up to his career-best showing during the regular season, and Johansson offers the sneaky upside of skating on the No. 2 line and the No. 1 power-play unit, which means he shares the ice with all of Washington's top offensive forwards.

Jordan Eberle, EDM vs. ANA ($4,600): With just two assists through nine playoff games, Eberle has not only underachieved, but he was also called out by his coach after Game 3. Eberle has been on the ice for a respectable 11.44 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes during the playoffs and has scored 20 goals in four consecutive seasons. This is a potential buy-low spot for the 26-year-old winger.

DEFENSE

Justin Schultz, PIT vs. WAS ($5,900): Missing Sidney Crosby (concussion) is a blow to the Pittsburgh offense, but it might mean Schultz has the puck on his stick a little more with the man advantage. The power-play quarterback posted an excellent 1.92 points per 60 minutes during the regular season, and he's up to a goal and five assists through eight playoff games. Schultz is a high-floor, high-ceiling option because of his offensively tilted role.

John Carlson, WAS at PIT ($4,500): This price has plenty of room for profit, and Carlson has been a disappointment offensively to start the playoffs. While he's only averaging 1:35 of power-play time per game and playing less of an offensive role, he's still a capable scorer. Additionally, with 27 shots and 18 blocked shots through nine postseason games, there's a reliable fantasy floor here. Call it a hunch that Carlson has a solid showing in Game 4.
