FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

The marquee matchup tonight features the Penguins visiting the Capitals with Sidney Crosby taking on Alex Ovechkin in a rivalry that will never get old. There are five games in total, and here are some players to consider adding to your FanDuel lineup…

Goalie

Mike Smith, CGY at LA ($8,200): The Flames acquired Smith in the offseason and he's shining so far for them. After a season of ups and downs with the Coyotes, Smith seems to have a comfort level with the Flames and their more stout defensive group. Coming off a 43-save shutout on the road against the Ducks, Smith looks to continue his hot play against the Kings. He's seen the most shots against him of any goalie thus far, averaging 38.33 shots against per game which, boosts his upside.

Center

Tyler Bozak, TOR vs NJ ($5,400): I've been on the Bozak train since the start of the season and he's been performing well. In three games thus far, the second-line center has one goal and three assists for a Maple Leafs team that has started extremely hot. Bozak also sees time on the top power-play unit and skates at full strength with wingers Mitch Marner and James van Riemsdyk.

David Krejci, BOS at COL ($5,100): The Bruins were just embarrassed by this Avalanche team in their home opener on Monday and have a chance at retribution tonight. Skating almost 20 minutes per game thus far, Krejci has three assists, all of which came in the Bruins' first game of the season. The Avalanche have had a poor penalty kill thus far, and Krejci — who has seen time on the top power-play unit — will look to take advantage of that.

Wings

Anders Lee, NYI at ANH ($5,100): Lee has been productive since being placed on the top line with superstar John Tavares last season, and that pairing has stayed true go start this year. The 30-goal-scorer from last season will start to bury the puck with regularity skating with Tavares and newcomer Jordan Eberle, and as long as he's this underpriced, I'll continue to roster him.

James van Riemsdyk, TOR vs NJ ($5,900): JVR has two goals and two assists in the team's first three games to go along with 13 shots on goal. He's contributed on the power play with three points, one goal and two assists. The Leafs are averaging 6.33 goals per game thus far and will look to continue that success against a young Devils club.

Jakob Silfverberg, ANH vs NYI ($4,800): Skating on the second line and top power-play unit, Silfverberg is yet to light the lamp yet this season after scoring 23 times last year, but at this salary he's just too cheap to not take a look at. The shot volume has been there thus far for the Swedish winger, as he is averaging over three shots per game, so the goals are going to come sooner than later.

Defense

T.J. Brodie, CGY at LA ($4,500): Brodie is a value defenseman I used often last season and more often than not he paid off. In three games this season, Brodie is averaging over 24 minutes per game and has two goals and two assists, all of which came in one game. He skates on the top power-play unit and is averaging two shots and two blocked shots per game thus far. He's as steady as they come and offers some decent upside at the position.

Brandon Carlo, BOS at COL ($3,600): The Bruins have a few defenseman to look at, including rookie Charlie McAvoy, but Carlo is a bargain-basement option to consider if you want to pay up at other positions. His upside is somewhat limited as he isn't much of an offensive threat at this point in his young career, but he plays around 18 minutes per game on the top defense pairing and has one assist, six shots on goal, and three blocks in two games thus far.
