2024 Fantasy Outlook
Bello exhibited some improvement in his first full season, but he still has work to do if he wants to be a front of the rotation starter. He improved his control, but it came at the expense of strikeouts. Bello has the raw stuff to be more dominant, but he's yet to establish a third pitch to complement his sinker and outstanding changeup. Not only was his swinging strike percentage below average, but his called strike percentage was well below average, resulting in one of the lowest CSW% among pitchers throwing at least 150 innings. Bello has the arsenal to improve both swinging and called strikes, he just needs to find the right sequencing. Bello should have a rotation spot locked up and won't have any innings restrictions. The cost to see if he can take the nest step shouldn't be prohibitive, but he's in the wrong division, with the wrong home park to use in a streaming capacity. Read Past Outlooks
Falls to Yankees
Bello (6-4) took the loss Friday against the Yankees, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Bello surrendered a two-run homer to Alex Verdugo in the first inning before the Yankees tacked on two more runs in the fifth. It's been a tough stretch for the 25-year-old, who's struggled to a 7.04 ERA over his last six starts. Bello's ERA sits at 5.00 on the season with a 1.40 WHIP and 56:24 K:BB across 63 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Toronto.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely option for Opening Day
Manager Alex Cora said Sunday he'll soon decide on an Opening Day starter, and it's likely between Bello and Nick Pivetta, according to Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican.
ANALYSIS
Bello inked a six-year, $55 million extension with Boston in early March and will enter the season as one of its top rotation pieces. The right-hander made his fourth spring start Sunday and allowed just one run over five frames against much of Atlanta's usual lineup. Bello posted a 4.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 132:45 K:BB across 157 innings during his first full season as a starter in 2023.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
After dominating at Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, Bello was promoted in early July and immediately inserted into the Red Sox rotation. The righty was overmatched and sent back to Triple-A in early August. Bello was recalled three weeks later and gathered much better results. He registered a 3.12 ERA down the stretch, albeit with an inflated 1.56 WHIP, stemming from a .336 BABIP over that 36.1 inning sample. Bello needs to work on his control, but he throws 97-mph and possesses a plus changeup. With some fine tuning and seasoning, Bello could be a rotation staple. It remains to be seen if Bello makes the necessary adjustments and breaks camp in Boston's rotation.
