2024 Fantasy Outlook
O'Hoppe had an intriguing yet incomplete debut season with the Angels. He got off to a great start hitting .283 with 4 homers and 13 RBIs in the first few weeks of the season before a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder put him on the shelf until late August. He was a fantasy monster in the final month of the season with 9 homers, 16 runs, and 15 RBIs down the stretch from the catching position. So far, O'Hoppe has hit lefties (.293) much better than righties (.220) but the overall numbers in an abbreviated season are certainly enticing. O'Hoppe is in the lineup more for his offensive upside than his defensive abilities as he is a liability behind the plate in controlling the running game and is still learning to be a better pitch framer. The potential for a 25-30 homer season is in his bat, but the upside here certainly comes with risks of his defensive liabilities costing him at bats unless he DH's more now with Ohtani's departure. Latest Fantasy Rumors
Competing for catcher job
O'Hoppe will be part of an open competition this spring for the Angels' starting catcher job, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The consensus seems to be that youngster O'Hoppe is the favorite to win the job, but he'll face competition from others, most notably veteran Max Stassi. Also worth noting is that Matt Thaiss is out of options, so keeping him around as Stassi's backup and giving O'Hoppe more reps in the minors is a possibility. Acquired from the Phillies for Brandon Marsh, O'Hoppe is easily the most intriguing of the Halos' catching options from a fantasy perspective.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
O'Hoppe was sent from the Phillies, where he was blocked by J.T. Realmuto, to the Angels in exchange for Brandon Marsh in a fun deadline swap of unproven up-the-middle position players with upside. A 6-foot-2 catcher who impressed in the 2021 Arizona Fall League and performed solidly in the lower levels, O'Hoppe broke out last year at Double-A prior to the trade (144 wRC+). He went completely nuclear after the trade, slashing .306/.473/.673 with 11 home runs, a 22.1 BB% and a 16.8 K% in 131 plate appearances for Rocket City, which allowed him to bypass Triple-A with his new organization and get a late-season call to the majors. Anaheim was a great trade destination for O'Hoppe, as he has a clear path to as much playing time as he can handle. Given his ability to draw walks and hit for impactful power, he could hit in the top five or six spots of the lineup for most of the season. Projections systems are buying in, so he won't be under the radar in two-catcher leagues.
