Jermaine Burton

22-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Bengals used a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL to select Burton, a deep threat at both Georgia and Alabama who ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash at the combine. He topped 400 receiving yards in each of his four collegiate seasons, yet never reached 800 while mostly playing in run-first offenses. In Cincinnati, the rookie likely will have to settle for an opportunity to compete for the No. 3 receiver job. Ja'Marr Chase is back as the unquestioned No. 1, and the Bengals don't seem inclined to trade Tee Higgins even if contract negotiations remain at a standstill. If Burton wins the No. 3 job, he won't necessarily be slot-based the way Tyler Boyd was in recent seasons, as both Chase and Higgins are more than capable working inside. At 6-0, 196 pounds, Burton might fit better on the perimeter, where he can challenge defenses downfield without seeing a large number of targets. Any hope for considerable target volume probably entails Chase or Higgins missing time. Read Past Outlooks

The Bengals selected Burton in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 80th overall.
ANALYSIS
Burton (6-foot, 196 pounds) is a former blue-chip recruit who transferred from Georgia to Alabama, displaying standout talent at both schools but also picking up his share of critics along the way. He developed a reputation for dubious judgement on the field and in the locker room both, and not as many former coaches went to bat for him as they normally would with a player of his abilities. With that said, Burton's fit at the pro level doesn't require much speculation. If he has his head in the game he has the talent to emerge as at least an average starter at some point, and for the Bengals he should be an immediate boost to the deep passing game. With 4.45-second 40-yard dash and impressive hands/tracking ability, Burton could hurt defenses that leave him in single coverage against slower corners.

Opportunity for big role in 2024
WRCincinnati Bengals
May 25, 2024
With veteran wide receiver Tyler Boyd signing with the Titans in free agency and Tee Higgins yet to sign his franchise tender, Burton has an opportunity to solidify himself as the main slot receiver during OTAs, Ben Baby of ESPN.com posits.
ANALYSIS
With Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase not present for OTAs, Burton joined Trenton Irwin, Andrei Iosivas and Charlie Jones as the top targets for Joe Burrow during drills. Burton noted Monday that he and Burrow have worked closely in OTAs, and the rookie wideout could be heavily relied on by the franchise quarterback should Higgins opt to hold out for a long-term deal or trade. In his final season at Alabama, Burton registered 39 catches for 798 yards and eight touchdowns. He was taken by the Bengals in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 80th overall.
