Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Corey Kluber, CLE vs. OAK ($49): Kluber has racked up eight strikeouts in each of his last three starts and has scored between 24.0 and 42.2 fantasy points in five of his last six trips to the mound. The A's have the lowest wOBA in the American League against right-handed pitching (.301) while Kluber has a 1.93 ERA and has only allowed a .220 batting average over his last two starts.

Michael Pineda, NYY at TB ($35): Pineda is much better suited as a tournament play, given his inconsistent production. However, he has delivered over his last two starts, scoring 31.0 and 32.0 fantasy points, respectively, while giving up only one earned run in 13 innings over that span. Meanwhile, the Rays have the highest strikeout rate in the AL against righties (24.3 percent), along with a mediocre .303 wOBA.

CATCHER

Yadier Molina, STL at MIA ($13): Molina is a 14-game hitting streak, and he's also enjoyed some success against Marlins starter Andrew Cashner, slashing .357/.400/.357 over 14 career at-bats. Meanwhile, Cashner heads into his first Marlins start with a .362 wOBA allowed to right-handed batters, and Molina has a .331 wOBA on the road this year.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, TOR vs. BAL ($22) Encarnacion is one of several Blue Jays with favorable histories against Orioles starter Chris Tillman, having slashed .302/.351/.528 over 53 at-bats with three doubles, three homers and four RBI. Tillman has enjoyed a very solid season, but Encarnacion brings double-digit fantasy point upside on any given day. He's scored 20.0 and 10.0 fantasy points over his last two games, respectively, and brings a .375 wOBA, .268 ISO and 36.4 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching this season. He's been even better this month, with a .394 wOBA, .321 ISO and seven homers.

SECOND BASE

Dee Gordon, MIA vs. STL ($14): Gordon is slowly starting hitting his stride after returning from his 80-game suspension Friday, having gone 3-for-8 over the last two games and swiping his first bag. While the matchup against Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez may drive many away, know that Gordon has battered him to the tune of a .533/.533/.600 line over 15 at-bats, and that Martinez has surrendered a .320 wOBA, eight of his nine homers and a 34.3 percent hard contact rate to left-handed bats this season.

THIRD BASE

Nick Castellanos, DET vs. HOU ($14): Castellanos is a cost-effective way to gain exposure to Astros lefty Dallas Keuchel, who's given up a .336 wOBA to right-handed hitters, including .368 on the road. Castellanos has a .344 wOBA and .225 ISO over 89 at-bats this month, and he has hit safely in seven of the last eight games.

SHORTSTOP

Trea Turner, WAS at SF ($16): Turner has been living on the base paths over the past several games, and he recently had a four-game stretch of double-digit fantasy points. He tallied another two hits and a stolen base Saturday, and now draws Giants starter Matt Cain, who has allowed a .350 wOBA and 5.18 xFIP to right-handed hitters this season. Meanwhile, Turner has a .382 wOBA against righties that rises to a whopping .550 over a small sample when facing them on the road.

OUTFIELD

Kevin Pillar, TOR vs. BAL ($9): Pillar is sporting a bargain price, particularly for a player who has double-digit fantasy points in three of his last five games. He also brings a strong history against Orioles starter Chris Tillman, slashing .350/.350/.850 over 20 at-bats with a double, three homers and five RBI. Pillar also has a .352 wOBA against righty arms at Rogers Centre this season, and he has five of his seven homers on the season against them as well.

Miguel Sano, MIN vs. CWS ($19): Sano has a .436 wOBA, .289 ISO and massive 46.4 percent hard contact rate against southpaws this season, while White Sox starter Carlos Rodon has given up a .373 wOBA and 14 of his 15 homers on the season to righties. The Twins slugger always brings massive upside for tournaments, and Rodon has given up 10 runs (nine earned), including four homers, in 10.2 innings over his last two starts.

Marcell Ozuna, MIA vs. STL ($10): Ozuna's price is worthy of a double take, particularly considering he's blasted homers in his last two contests. He's also tallied double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four games and has a .389 wOBA at Marlins Park this season. Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez has admittedly been very tough against righty bats this season, but Ozuna's price removes much of the risk and provides a high-upside play at what should be low ownership.
