Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Aaron Sanchez, TOR at KC ($45): It's a good thing that the Blue Jays decided to keep Sanchez in the rotation for the time being, as it allows us to take advantage of a fantastic matchup. The Royals have the sixth-lowest flyball rate in the league and Sanchez is a groundball wizard, notching a 58 percent rate. The Cy Young candidate likely doesn't need any more statistics in his favor, but it certainly doesn't hurt that Kansas City's wOBA against righties barely cracks the .300 mark.

Carlos Martinez, STL vs. ATL ($43): We were able to pull a tremendous score by pitting an extreme groundball pitcher against the Braves on Friday, so why not try again with an even better groundball pitcher? Martinez has kept an ERA just under 3.00 and a hard contact rate just under 30 percent over 20 starts. The strikeouts have declined since the end of last season, but Atlanta ranks dead last in the league against righties according to wOBA, which should make for a comfortable outing.

Catcher

Cameron Rupp, PHI at SD ($14): Rupp's ISO against righties (.193) is more than 100 points lower than his mark against southpaws but he is still a fine choice against Paul Clemens, who has allowed an astounding seven homers to righties over just 13.2 innings. Clemens had to leave his last start due to back tightness and could be even riper for the picking if he is attempting to pitch through the problem.

First Base

Chris Carter, MIL at ARI ($13): Carter doesn't really do much besides hit home runs, but he still needs to be active any time a mediocre lefty is on the mound as he has notched an ISO approaching .400(!) over 84 at-bats against them. This matchup will see Carter pit his 47 percent flyball rate against Patrick Corbin's groundball-heavy profile.

Second Base

Neil Walker, NYM at DET ($16): Walker is another hitter worth a look when a southpaw is on the bump due to the .561 slugging percentage he carries in that platoon. Opposing starter Matt Boyd has struggled with righties this season, allowing eight homers over 41.2 innings.

Third Base

Nick Castellanos, DET vs. NYM ($13): Castellanos is a perfect fit for a pitcher like Logan Verrett, as we have a batter who hits same-handed pitchers well against a hurler who struggles mightly against other righties. The rubber will meet the road when Castellanos takes his .905 OPS into battle against Verrett's .373 wOBA.

Shortstop

Trea Turner, WAS vs. SF ($12): Matt Cain blanked the Nationals over five innings when he faced the squad last week at home but he walked four batters along the way, which resulted in a 5.79 xFIP for the contest. Cain has kept a 2.0 HR/9 rate against righties this season, while Turner has notched a .216 ISO against right-handed pitchers.

Outfield

Adam Duvall, CIN at PIT ($18): We will seek out Ivan Nova wherever he goes, as his groundball rate, heavy usage of his curve, and tendency to allow home runs makes him a perfect stack option under the right circumstances. Duvall should be able to exploit the holes in Nova's game, as he features a 45 percent flyball rate and a 5.0 runs above average mark against the curve.

Carlos Beltran, TEX at HOU ($16): Doug Fister has one of those massive splits you hope to find when researching picks, as he may get overlooked if people simply look at the overall numbers. The groundball artist holds a 5.35 xFIP against his opposite hand while Beltran carries a .224 ISO against right-handed pitching.

Steve Pearce, BAL at CWS ($9): I genuinely missed Pearce while he was on the disabled list, as the designation prevented me from utilizing a dangerous (and cheap) platoon weapon. Pearce has run through left-handed pitchers over 56 at-bats this season, tallying a .339 ISO over that span. Carlos Rodon may be the pitcher of the future for the White Sox, but he presently holds a 1.9 HR/9 rate against right-handed hitters.

Other OF Options: Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. MIA ($16); Melky Cabrera, CWS vs. BAL ($16); Brandon Moss, STL vs. ATL ($19)
