FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Ian Kennedy, KAN vs. MIN ($8,500): Kennedy has been lights-out over his last four starts, limiting opponents to just three runs in 26 innings. That hot streak is likely to continue against a middling Twins offense that has managed only two runs in their two previous encounters this season. The strikeout-prone Twins have the seventh-highest K-rate in baseball, which means Kennedy will also have a chance to pad his already-impressive 8.91 K/9. Look for yet another strong all-around outing from the crafty right-hander in this one.

CATCHER

Welington Castillo, ARI at SDP ($3,000): Castillo has made a living pummeling lefties all season, with a massive .422 wOBA and 14 extra-base hits in 87 at-bats. He comes in swinging a hot bat after managing nine base knocks in the last four games and a matchup with underwhelming veteran lefty Clayton Richard (5.75 ERA) is unlikely to slow the affordable catcher's roll.

FIRST BASE

Chris Davis, BAL vs. HOU ($3,600): Davis has found his power stroke with four homers in the last three games and facing right-hander Mike Fiers (1.58 HR/9 allowed) offers the slugging first baseman a tremendous opportunity to keep launching long balls. Even if he fails to go yard for the fourth straight contest, Davis' place in the heart of an Orioles lineup that has accounted for 21 runs in the first two games of this series should earn him plenty of high-leverage chances against a struggling pitcher that has yielded nine runs in just 9.2 innings over his last two starts.

SECOND BASE

Daniel Murphy, WAS at ATL ($4,000): Murphy will be well rested after a day off Friday, making him extra dangerous against Braves rookie Tyrell Jenkins. The former Mets postseason hero has an impressive .424 wOBA against right-handers, so he should have no problem delivering against one that has allowed a .356 wOBA to all lefties faced en route to a 4.89 ERA through 46 major league innings. This is a colossal mismatch that should repeatedly play out in the second baseman's favor and the potential for extra runs and RBI is great given that he bats third in a top 10 offense.

THIRD BASE

Wilmer Flores, NYM at SF ($2,600): Flores turns into a completely different beast against lefties, with a .445 wOBA in that split so far this season. As a result he should be a much-needed source of offense for the injury-riddled Mets against struggling Giants southpaw Matt Moore. Considering Moore has failed to pick up a win while walking 14 batters through 18 innings with his new team, his chances of limiting the inexpensive infielder seem low.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK at CWS ($2,900): Some will immediately discount Semien when they see Chris Sale on the mound for the White Sox, but Chicago's ace has been very underwhelming with a 4.53 ERA over his last seven starts. Another minor Sale slip-up is all Semien would need to provide value, and the shortstop's .391 wOBA against southpaws suggests he's more than capable of pushing the issue himself in situations like this. The former White Sox draft pick will be motivated to stick it to his former team, making him a strong value at $2,900.

OUTFIELD

Mitch Haniger, ARI at SDP ($2,700): Haniger is 7-for-16 through his first four major league games and now gets to face a the underwhelming Richard. Conventional wisdom says the right-handed rookie is expected to fare better against southpaws, and Richard's .395 wOBA allowed to LHB further raises the likelihood of another big game from Haniger. He should provide top-notch bang for the buck as part of a Diamondbacks lineup filled with enticing options.

Mookie Betts, BOS at DET ($4,500): With five multi-homer games to his name already this season, Betts has proven capable of propelling lineups all by himself like few others can. The leadoff man turned cleanup hitter has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games and likely won't find it difficult to continue that success against Tigers starter Daniel Norris. Norris is allowing a .364 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season and could find himself in trouble early and often against the elite Red Sox offense. That would mean plenty of high-stakes opportunities with ducks on the pond for one of the most consistently productive hitters in baseball.

Lorenzo Cain, KAN vs. MIN ($3,100): Cain is another guy who gets it done specifically against left-handed pitching, with a .434 wOBA in that split and just .280 against righties. Luckily for him the Twins will be trotting out southpaw Hector Santiago, who has allowed a pedestrian .337 wOBA to right-handed hitters. Very few bats in baseball can match Cain's proficiency in such situations. Expect Kansas City's three-hole hitter to push his hitting streak to seven games with ease in this favorable matchup.
