DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Chad Kuhl, PIT at TOR ($7,100): Kuhl is easy to overlook due to his mediocre 4.53 ERA, but the 24-year-old has registered a 7.2 RAA with his slider, a pitch the Blue Jays are a bottom-3 team against this season. It is also worth noting that Kuhl has a 43 percent ground-ball rate, while Toronto puts the ball on the ground at a 44 percent clip.

Corey Kluber, CLE at TB ($13,500): Kluber has tallied an almost unfathomable 36 percent strikeout rate in 2017, and he will be facing a team in the Rays who strike out a quarter of the time against right-handers. While they have the ability to hurt any pitcher with the long ball, Tampa Bay has had trouble against power pitchers, as evidenced by their .634 OPS over 905 at-bats.

CATCHER

Robinson Chirinos, TEX vs. HOU ($3,600):Dallas Keuchel's strikeout rate gets cut nearly in half against righties, falling to 18.5 percent in 70 innings. He also has a bit of an issue keeping the ball in the park on the road, having allowed seven homers in 48 innings. Chirinos has shown tremendous power against both sides of the platoon, but his .374 wOBA tells us he has been a better overall hitter against his opposite hand.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. KC ($3,400):Jason Vargas got off to a strong start in 2017, but he has kept an ERA north of 7.00 in his last 28.1 innings dating back to July. Meanwhile, Abreu has smashed left-handed pitching, notching a .245 ISO and .439 wOBA over 106 at-bats.

SECOND BASE

Brian Dozier, MIN at DET ($5,100): Dozier has had success against lefties this season, logging a .255 ISO to go along with a .412 wOBA over 44 at-bats. Meanwhile, Matt Boyd has struggled against right-handed hitters, surrendering a .500 slugging percentage and 39 percent hard contact rate through 70 frames.

THIRD BASE

Josh Harrison, PIT at TOR ($3,200):J.A. Happ has allowed a .459 slugging percentage and 1.5 HR/9 rate at Rogers Centre this season, while Harrison has shown a bit more power against lefties, notching a .168 ISO to accompany his .358 wOBA in 95 at-bats.

SHORTSTOP

Amed Rosario, NYM at PHI ($3,200): Rosario has shown some power against righties in his first 31 at-bats this season, tallying a .258 ISO. The 24-year-old has been more prone to the strikeout with the big club than he was in his minor league career, but that shouldn't matter much against Zach Eflin, who has fanned just 10 righty batters in 24.1 innings.

OUTFIELD

Lorenzo Cain, KC at CWS ($4,400): Cain has shown himself to be a complete hitter against righties this season, but his .204 ISO tells us that the bulk of his power has come against southpaws. Not much has gone right for Derek Holland after May, as he has a minus-14.3 RAA with his fastball, as well as a .556 slugging percentage against right-handed hitters.

Scooter Gennett, CIN at MIL ($4,100): Gennett has begun to slow down in his breakout season, but he still has a .272 ISO and 39 percent hard contact rate against righties. While Matt Garza has thrown the ball reasonably well at home (3.54 ERA), his mediocre strikeout and walk rates against lefties have contributed to an xFIP over 6.00 in 43.2 innings.

Domingo Santana, MIL vs. CIN ($4,200):Sal Romano has struck out fewer than 14 percent of the right-handed hitters he has faced this season while allowing a home run rate of 1.4/9 over 19.1 innings. Meanwhile, Santana has notched a .180 ISO and 36 percent hard contact rate against same-handed pitchers through 295 at-bats.
