Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Luis Castillo, CIN at PIT ($41): Castillo has been pretty darn solid since debuting, and his stability is appealing here with Clayton Kershaw checking in at $20 more than the next highest-priced option. Castillo allowed three runs or less in 10 of his 13 starts to date, and just three runs in his last 17.0 frames while striking out 24. He has a sterling 83:31 K:BB ratio, 26.8 percent fan rate and 2.68 ERA on the road and faces a Pirates' lineup that ranks 27th against righties with a .307 wOBA, 86 wRC+ and -50.7 wRAA.

Jack Flaherty, STL at SF ($28): The unknown in Flaherty, making his Major League debut, can offer appeal in tournament formats as a cheap second arm against a bad offense. At the worst, he balances out a budget that features Kershaw, while also allowing free spending on bats in a slate with limited pitching upside. The Giants have been the league's worst offense against righties all year, and bring a .297 wOBA, 82 wRC+ and -76.8 wRAA into the contest. Flaherty had a 2.18 ERA and 147 strikeouts in 148.2 minor league innings prior to his promotion.

Catcher

Robinson Chirinos, TEX vs. LAA ($14): Chirinos has feasted on lefties to the tune of a .414 wOBA, 158 wRC+ and .241 ISO, second only to Adrian Beltre amongst Ranger regulars. That should play well against Tyler Skaggs, who has been decent against righties to date but has allowed eight runs over his last 10.1 innings.

First Base

Logan Morrison, TB at CWS ($15): Morrison entered Thursday with eight hits in his last six games (21 at bats), with four of those hits clearing the fence. He has a season-long .371 wOBA, 135 wRC+ and .295 ISO against righties entering a matchup with a struggling and soon-to-be activated Reynaldo Lopez, who has allowed eight runs over 10.1 innings while seeing lefties post a .441 wOBA against.

Second Base

Brad Miller, TB at CWS ($7): We touched on White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez's struggles, and that, paired with position scarcity and price tag, make Miller an intriguing option. It's been a trying, injury-laden season for Miller, but he's hit safely in five straight, which includes two homers, and comes with very little risk at a nonpremium position.

Third Base

Jose Ramirez, CLE at DET ($15): At least in the short term, Ramirez seems to have rediscovered his swing, going 8-for-16 in his last four games entering Thursday. Even with that surge, he's hitting just .235 in August, keeping his price at this discounted rate. He carries a season-long .391 wOBA and 144 wRC+ on the road against righties and has a juicy matchup against Buck Farmer, who has allowed 16 earned runs over his last 10.1 innings.

Shortstop

Francisco Lindor, CLE at DET ($20): Stacking Indians in the second game of a double header could be risky, as the Tribe played two Wednesday before Thursday's day off, potentially leading to some volatile lineups. Assuming he plays Friday night, Lindor has a stable .351 wOBA, 117 wRC+ and .254 ISO in August against righties, and has five multi-hit games in his last seven games entering Thursday. Meanwhile, Tigers' starter Buck Farmer has a 10.32 home ERA, where he's allowed five homers in 10.32 innings.

Outfield

Giancarlo Stanton, MIA vs. PHI ($28): I tried, hard, to look for any reason not to include Stanton here, and the best I could come up with was 1) price, and 2) he's 1-for-15 over his last four games. We'll stay away from Stanton's well-known offensive stats, and simply state that Phillies' starter Nick Pivetta has a 7.62 road ERA, where he's allowing a .413 wOBA, .994 OPS and 39.5 percent fly ball rate to righties.

Adam Jones, BAL vs. TOR ($19): Jones enjoyed a sound August, posting a .380 wOBA, 138 wRC+ and .258 ISO against righties. He's hit safely in eight of his last nine, collecting 15 hits and four homers in that span, and faces a limited Joe Biagini, who had an 11.25 ERA in August.

Jayson Werth, WAS vs. MIL ($17): The price may be a bit inflated given a lack of huge upside, but Werth figures to be severely overlooked in his fourth game back from an extended injury absence. He has three hits and four RBI since returning, and sports a .357 wOBA against righties.
