Johnson (knee) is doubtful for VCU's first game of the NCAA tournament Friday against Stephen F. Austin, according to coach Shaka Smart, CBS Sports reports.

Johnson missed the Atlantic 10 championship game with the sprained knee, and there is no timetable for his return. Smart said they would know more on Thursday, but it sounds like the Rams will be without their best outside shooter, making them susceptible to an upset against a trendy Stephen F. Austin team.

Johnson suffered a knee injury during Saturday's win over George Washington, and he will not play in Sunday's A-10 title game against St. Joseph's. The sophomore guard is scheduled for an MRI on Monday, CBS Sports reports.

A serious injury seems to be in play, meaning that the Rams may be without Johnson in the upcoming NCAA tourney. The 6-3 sophomore guard is averaging 10.6 points, 2.2 boards, 1.3 assists and 0.9 steals this season.

Johnson struggled from the floor Tuesday at George Washington, making just 4-of-14 shots in route to 11 points and three rebounds.

The sophomore is averaging 10.5 points and 2.1 boards off of the Rams bench, scoring nearly four points more per game this year while playing an average of four minutes more per night. Still, he hasn't taken a full leap into fantasy relevance, and is unlikely to do so until next season when he presumably moves into the starting lineup. He scored 27 points in 19 minutes in a game earlier this season against Virginia Tech, so the potential is there.
