Bird (back) did not play in Friday's loss to Hawaii.

Bird suffered back spasms prior to the game, and the ailment prevented him from taking the court in the contest. Cal had already been in a tough position with Tyrone Wallace (hand) having been ruled out for the entire tournament, so the Golden Bears were awfully thin in the backcourt during the upset defeat. As a result, Sam Singer and Jordan Mathews both saw heavy minutes, despite each of them flirting with foul trouble (Singer eventually fouled out). Regarding Bird, he'll now have an entire offseason to deal with any back problems, and will presumably have a larger role in 2016-17, as Wallace is set to graduate and move on from the program. Barring the lockdown of a top recruit, Bird should be available to compete for one of the starting backcourt spots next season.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird experienced back spasms during pregame warmups but he is being evaluated in the locker room to determine whether he can play in the second half of Friday's game against Hawaii, Jeff Faraudo of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

Bird was surprisingly missing from the Golden Bears' starting lineup Friday after experiencing back issues before the game. There's still no word yet on whether he'll return, but the fact that he's being re-evaluated indicates that he may try to get on the floor for the second half of Friday's tilt.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Bird produced 20 points, two rebounds and a steal Thursday as California knocked off Oregon State 76-68 in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals in Las Vegas.

Bird topped 60 percent shooting for the first time in five appearances and matched a personal-best five made 3-pointers to finish one of two California players reaching 20 points on Thursday. The junior also logged his eighth and ninth rebound and second takeaway for the month of March in the victory. The 6-6, 198-pound guard has now reached double figures in five of his last six appearances, but is presently averaging a mere 7.3 points in games played away from Berkeley this season (that's nearly half of the median 14.1 points he produced in home contests this year). Bird prepares to face off against Utah in a Pac-12 Tournament semifinal matchup on Friday also netting 2.9 rebounds an outing versus conference foes this year as well.

Bird caught fire from long-range against UCLA, knocking down a game-high five 3-pointers, and finished the leading scorer in Thursday's contest. The guard also registered multiple rebounds for the first time in three appearances and his first takeaway in four starts in the victory. Bird has now reached double figures in four of his team's last five outings and surpassed 20 points in three of those same showings. That finds the junior presently averaging an impressive 15.8 points as a 59.3 percent field goal/60.6 percent 3-point shooter for games played in February. The Vallejo, CA native adds 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 28.2 minutes playing time per outing for the month as well.

Bird has now topped 20 points in back-to-back showings for the first time in his collegiate career and combined for a stalwart 67 points in four showings for the month of February. Nevertheless, the Vallejo, CA native presently averages an unostentatious 10.5 points a game in Pac-12 play and has yet to reach double figures in median scoring output for the year. The forward also fell two rebounds short of matching Tyrone Wallace's team-best eight, accounted for two asssists and led all Golden Bears in steals (2) in the victory. Bird has now combined for 37 points in his last two appearances, but continues to average less than 10 points a game (9.7) in conference play.
