The University of Kentucky confirmed Friday morning that Poythress (knee) suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, Andrew Carter of the Charlotte Observer reports.

Poythress likely sustained the injury at some point during the Wildcats' narrow win over Columbia on Wednesday. While his averages (5.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 0.3 assists) weren't especially remarkable, Poythress was regarded as the team's top defender on the perimeter, using his size and lateral quickness to suffocate the opposition's top threat. While the All-American-laden Wildcats have more than enough talent to cover for his absence, the junior will still be a big loss to the squad.

Jordan Mickey turned in an impressive campaign last year and should have even more room to work in the LSU offense this season.

Poythress suffered a torn ACL on Thursday, Brian Milam of WKYT reports.

Poythress has been averaging 5.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.3 assists in about 20 minutes this season. Although the team hasn't officially released anything yet, coach John Calipari has a press conference at two on Friday, where he will likely announce the injury if it is not officially released before then. It's an unfortunate turn of events for the junior, who was a potential NBA draft prospect coming into the season. Assuming the report is true, he will likely now have to consider whether to take his chances in the draft or return for his senior season.

Poythress (illness) notched four points, nine rebounds and four blocks against UT-Arlington on Tuesday.

The value for Poythress will come in his ability to rebound and play defense. However, he will be limited by the outrageous depth possessed by the No. 1 Wildcats.

Poythress (illness) did not play in Sunday's victory over Boston University.

Poythress has now missed back-to-back contests due to illness, but will likely look to make a return to the court Tuesday against UT-Arlington. Considering the depth of coach John Calipari's rotation at Kentucky, there was likely little reason to rush the junior forward's return to action. Poythress has seen steady minutes as a starter so far in 2014-15, averaging 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds over the Wildcats' first three contests. The rotation depth ultimately hurts his season-long fantasy value, however.

Poythress is dealing with an illness and is not expected to play against Boston University on Friday, Kyle Tucker of The Courier-Journal reports.

Kentucky won't likely need the efforts of Poythress on Friday anyway, so his absence is not all too concerning for his long-term viability. His next opportunity to get on the court will be against Montana State on Sunday.

Poythress will return for his junior season at Kentucky, Kyle Tucker of The Courier-Journal reports. "Playing in the NBA has always been a dream of mine, but I want to make sure that I'm NBA-ready."

Poythress averaged 5.9 points and 4.5 boards in 18 minutes in his sophomore season. His numbers actually decreased in his second season, as Kentucky had more depth at the forward spot. With Julius Randle and James Young going pro and decisions looming for the Harrison brothers and Dakari Johnson, Poythress could see an increased role with the team next season and improve his draft stock.
