Mitchell will transfter to Georgia Tech, ESPN reports.

As a sophomore at Maryland last season, the 6-8, 280-pound Mitchell averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in 18.8 minutes. Among the reasons he selected Georgia Tech is to be closer to his ill grandmother, who resides in Atlanta. Assuming he's not granted a hardship waiver, Mitchell will be required to sit out the 2014-15 season, per NCAA transfer rules.

The wide-bodied freshman also grabbed seven rebounds and showed flashes of a player to whom coach Mark Turgeon might be inclined to give a bump in minutes. He is averaging 6.1 points and 6.2 rebounds in his debut season.
