Muhammad was dismissed from the Hurricanes' program Wednesday for "failure to meet team expectations."

Muhammad received a three-game suspension in early November due to a violation of team rules, so it isn't clear if his dismissal is related to that incident or a separate event. Either way, the troubled guard will no longer have an opportunity to play for Miami in 2016-17, and will likely need to transfer to another school to continue his collegiate career.

Muhammad has received a three-game ban to begin 2016-17 due to a violation of team rules, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

After averaging 13.9 points and 3.3 rebounds as a sophomore during the 2014-15 season, Muhammad transferred to Miami and sat out last year. He will now be eligible to return Nov. 24 against Stanford, but his role with the team remains undefined at this point. If last week's exhibition against Barry is any indication (just seven minutes of action), he may see limited minutes despite the departures of guards Sheldon McClellan and Angel Rodriguez from last year's team.

Muhammad will transfer to Miami, ESPN reports.

Muhammad, Shabazz's younger brother, will have to sit out the 2015-16 season, but should be a top scorer for the Hurricanes when he becomes eligible.

Muhammad, who averaged 13.9 points as a sophomore, will transfer from San Jose State, ESPN.com reports.

Shabazz's younger brother has been a consistent scorer over the past two seasons. He averaged 13.2 points as a freshman, and scored in double digits for the Trojans 13 of his last 14 games. Muhammad's scoring exploits were not enough to keep the Trojans from going winless in Mountain West play.
