Johnson received his full release from Pittsburgh and will be eligible to play for North Carolina in the 2017-18 season, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Johnson's eligibility was in question, as Pittsburgh's original ruling stated that he would be able to play for North Carolina, but would have to sit out a full season before being able to play there despite being a graduate transfer. This new ruling means Johnson will be provide the Tar Heels with a strong option at small forward alongside Theo Pinson immediately. At Pitt, Johnson averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 33.3 minutes per game in 2016-17.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson's eligibility status is in limbo for the 2017-18 season due to Pittsburgh's rule against transferring to other ACC schools, Andrew Carter of the News-Observer reports.

Johnson graduated from Pitt in three years and has two years of eligibility remaining due to taking a medical redshirt for one season. Pittsburgh has a rule against transferring to other ACC schools, but because he graduated and had strong academic standing with Pittsburgh, was allowed to transfer to North Carolina after sitting out one year. Johnson has appealed this decision and is looking to have his eligibility at North Carolina for the 2017-18 season reinstated. There will likely be more updates on this before the start of the season. At Pittsburgh, Johnson averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 33.3 minutes per game this year.

Johnson announced Tuesday that he will transfer to North Carolina, Jeff Goodman of ESPN reports.

Johnson asked for his release from his scholarship from Pittsburgh with the program going through a massive rebuild in the coming years, and he will now join an established North Carolina program. Johnson averaged 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists over 33 minutes last year, and there has not yet been a report regarding his eligibility for next season.

Johnson will transfer from Pittsburgh, Kevin Gorman of Triblive.com reports.

With Pittsburgh rebuilding due to several other recent transfers, Johnson asked for a release from his scholarship. The redshirt sophomore tallied 11.9 points, 4.5 boards, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 2.4 triples across 33.3 minutes in the 2016-17 season. He has yet to announce where he will be heading.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson had a season-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting in Tuesday's loss to North Carolina. He also added two assists, a rebound, and a block over 40 minutes.

Johnson's three-point shooting helped keep the Panthers in it Tuesday on the road in Chapel Hill. He canned 6-of-9 from deep, including 4-of-6 in the second half. Entering Tuesday, Johnson had been averaging 10.4 points on 33.8 percent shooting while the likes of Jamel Artis and Michael Young shouldered most of the scoring burden.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson had 16 points, five rebound and four assists Wednesday against Omaha.

Since failing to score against Marquette on November 18, Johnson has now run off eight straight double-digit scoring efforts. He's contributing across the board, averaging 4.3 boards and 2.4 assists, and while he remains a year away from a full breakout with Michael Young and Jamel Artis still the Panthers offensive focal points, Johnson oozes potential and it's just starting to show.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson had 11 points and three rebounds Tuesday against Maryland.

He's now provided double-digit scoring in three straight after taking a goose egg against Marquette on Nov. 18. At 6-foot-8, Johnson is a bit of a matchup problem for opposing guards, and he showed flashes of potential late last season. Pitt remains a team dominated by Michael Young and Jamel Artis, but Johnson has potential to be a complimentary piece this year with an eye on a breakout a season from now.

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Johnson is in the starting lineup Thursday against North Carolina.

Johnson scored a season-high 24 points over 32 minutes in the Panthers' ACC tournament opener against Syracuse, and that was enough to earn the sophomore wing his first start of the season. He'll get the nod over Chris Jones, and if Johnson sees over 20 minutes, he could be in for another productive outing in what projects to be an up-tempo game.
