Yahoo DFS Hockey: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

Tuesday's 10-game NHL slate begins at 7:00 PM Eastern time. Read on to see which players stand out as the best options to target at their respective valuations in this slate and which ones should be avoided.

GOALIE

Devan Dubnyk, MIN at VAN ($30): Dubnyk's price has plummeted during his recent cold spell, but the veteran goalie's 2.72 GAA is likely to come down as the season moves along considering that would represent his worst mark since 2013-14. He gets a great opportunity to turn things around against a Canucks team that's won just once in its past 12 games.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Thomas Greiss, NYI vs. MON ($33): Greiss looks like he's starting to cool down after a hot start, allowing three or more goals in five of his past eight games. Meanwhile, Winnipeg's up to 3.46 goals per game after scoring 24 goals over its last five contests.

CENTER

Matt Duchene, OTT at MON ($21): Duchene has been among the league's hottest players over the past few weeks, compiling 21 points in his last 13 games. The skilled forward should stay scathing hot against a Canadiens club that features the reeling Carey Price in net. Price has a 3.05 GAA and .898 save percentage, showing no improvement from the 3.11 and .900 marks he posted last season.

CENTER TO AVOID

Nicklas Backstrom, WAS at VGK ($24): Backstrom's been on fire as Washington's first-line center with eight points in the last three games, but he could cool down in a hurry given this difficult matchup. Golden Knights netminder Marc-Andre Fleury has been tremendous over his past nine starts, allowing just 17 goals en route to seven wins and three shutouts.

WINGS

David Backes, BOS at FLA ($14): Backes' ice time has climbed to just short of 16 minutes per game over the past three, and he's skating on the top power-play unit with Patrice Bergeron on injured reserve. That prominent role with the extra man could pay off for the affordable veteran against Florida's 74.7 percent penalty kill, which ranks fifth-worst in the league.

Jonathan Drouin, MON vs. OTT ($18): This should be a high-scoring game given the goaltenders' poor stats -- Ottawa's Craig Anderson has been even worse than Price with a 3.62 GAA and .905 save percentage. Drouin's likely to get in on that scoring considering he's produced 22 points in his last 24 games. That production includes seven power-play points, and Drouin gets a great opportunity to add to that total against the Senators' league-worst, 70.0 percent penalty kill.

WINGS TO AVOID

Matthew Tkachuk, CGY at CLS ($22): Tkachuk has been in a rut of late, with no goals, two assists and 11 shots in the past five games. You need more out of players in this price range, but improvement's unlikely to come against Blue Jackets netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, who has allowed only 25 goals over his last 12 appearances.

J.T. Miller, TB at DET ($15): Miller looks like a nice value play at $15 against the Red Wings, but he's going to have a hard time living up to even that modest valuation given his recent decline in usage. Demoted to the fourth line, the former Rangers forward is averaging just 11:47 of ice time in his last three games, and Miller's only scored more than 3.8 fantasy points once over the past six.

DEFENSEMEN

Josh Morrissey, WPG at NYI ($19): Morrissey is once again stepping up while Dustin Byfuglien's out. In each of the three games since Byfuglien suffered a concussion, Morrissey's skated between 28:11 and 29:02. He's making the most of that massive workload with an average of 10.3 fantasy points during that stretch.

Shea Weber, MON vs. OTT ($22): Weber's hit the ground running since making his season debut on Nov. 27, racking up two goals, an assist, a plus-2 rating, 11 shots and three blocks in his first three games. It wouldn't be surprising to see the star blueliner's price start to climb as he gets even more comfortable, so grabbing Weber at his current $22 valuation makes sense against this defensively challenged opponent.

DEFENSEMEN TO AVOID

Kris Letang, PIT vs. COL ($24): Letang scored four goals in his first six games this season, but he's potted only one in 18 appearances since. He's also failed to record a point while posting a minus-3 rating in his past two games, the first of which came against this same opponent. The value just isn't there right now at $24.

Drew Doughty, LA vs. ARI ($19): Doughty's relied heavily on the power play for his production, with nine of his 15 points coming on the man advantage. Arizona's league-best 89.7 percent penalty kill is likely to take away that aspect of Doughty's game, thus severely limiting his value.
