Closer Watch
Arizona – I bet most of us were just counting down the days until we would get a Heath Bell implosion. All we had to do to make it happen was make him the Rotowire cover boy for this week's NL FAAB pickups. Bell coughed up Brandon McCarthy's eight inning shutout by giving up two runs on four hits while retiring two batters before he was removed on Sunday. David Hernandez is next in line for saves while J.J. Putz is on the DL, and Hernandez could get his chance sooner rather than later.

Cincinnati – Isaac saw a bit of a controversy in the comments section of Sunday's Lineup Card when he stated that it would take several blips in Chapman's radar before he would have his job threatened. I agree with the commenters that Chapman's job is as safe as they come, but I also agree with Isaac because any closer this side of Rivera is always just a few blips in the radar from losing his job. Chapman silenced his Rotowire critics with a walk and three strikeouts in a non-save situation Sunday.

Detroit – Jose Valverde allowed his first run since returning to the Tigers and logged his first blown save this season in the process. Through his first five outings Valverde had not been touched, so he still has a solid grasp on the closer's job for now.

San Diego – Huston Street had converted his first eight opportunities this season but he blew one for the first time Saturday. It was a two-run homer to Evan Longoria in which Street also absorbed the loss. Street has been pretty good this year, except for the five home runs he has allowed in 14.2 innings. That accounts for six of the eight runs he has allowed. As a Padre, Street has converted 31 of 33 save chances, so he would need more of an implosion to have his job threatened.

Tampa Bay – The Fernando Rodney we all knew and loved in 2012 is all but gone. Hope you were not banking on Rodney to repeat that 0.78 WHIP this season. He has had just one 1-2-3 inning in 14 appearances this year. Still, Rodney has settled down a bit and delivered three scoreless innings in a row, including his sixth save Sunday.

Recommended Pickup
Trevor Bauer, P, CLE – Bauer has been erratic in two MLB starts this year. Walks were the problem on both occasions, as he picked up 13 BBs in ten innings. Bauer has made four starts with Triple-A Columbus and his stats include a 2.55 ERA, .185 average against, and a much more management ten walks in 24.2 innings. And let's be honest, this could be an audition for Corey Kluber's rotation spot after Kluber's Thursday implosion. Oh, and one more thing, and yes, I'm serious: News broke that the television hit 24 will return this fall, reportedly with Jack Bauer. Things are looking up for Bauers right now.
