Hernandez pitched seven innings, giving up seven hits, three walks and four earned runs in Aguascalientes' 10-5 loss to Puebla on Sunday in the Mexican Baseball League.
ANALYSIS
Hernandez pitched decently for the St. Paul Saints last year, recording an 8-3 record, 3.99 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 97 innings. The Venezuela native then played for Magallanes in the Venezuelan Winter League and went 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA and 1.32 WHIP over 28 innings. The 27-year-old's stats are relatively unimpressive, and as long as he stays in foreign ball, he holds little fantasy value.

Hernandez made 14 appearances (12 starts) for the Twins last season, but the results were uninspiring as he had a high walk rate (3.7 BB/9) and underwhelming velocity (88.9 mph fastball). He doesn't produce groundballs at good rate (39.9 percent) and has a mediocre strikeout rate (6.5 K/9 IP) to make matters worse. After he was let go by the Twins, he signed with Colorado where he'll likely provide depth at Triple-A.
After showing some promise on the lower levels of the minor leagues, Hernandez has struggled to live up to his potential. His K/BB has suffered with each advancement in level and his HR/9 IP has seen a increase as well. While he wasn't considered a top prospect in the Padres system, he may look a little better now that he is with the White Sox. Their depleted farm system could improve his path to the majors if the big club suffers some injuries in the bullpen.
