DraftKings NHL: Next Week's Value Picks

DraftKings NHL: Next Week's Value Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

The picks from last week were a mixed bag.

Jordan Staal and Shayne Gostisbehere continued their impressive runs. Staal had two goals and two assists through his latest three games, while Gostisbehere had two goals and a helper with over 20 minutes of ice in all three games last week.

Ben Bishop and Nikolaj Ehlers, on the other hand, were rather underwhelming. Bishop did grab a win against the Predators, but Ehlers had a single helper through three games and just six shots on net.

Expect to see plenty of ink on David Perron and Mathew Dumba this week, and for good reason. Perron has been a point-per-game player since joining Anaheim, and Dumba is thriving on the No. 1 power-play unit in Minnesota.

Here are a number of other values to turn to this week.

C: Martin Hanzal, Arizona Coyotes, $4,000

While expecting regular three-point showings isn't suggested, Hanzal has strung together a really nice run of late with four goals, six assists and 25 shots on net over his past nine games, including an average of 3:19 on the power play.

Hanzal's offense has picked up between rookies Max Domi and Anthony Duclair, with the pivot's efforts in the dirty areas opening up space for Domi and Duclair to utilize their offensive creativity. The veteran pivot is at 2.56 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five and 3.39 with the kids, respectively.

The upcoming schedule isn't great, though. Arizona hosts the Blues before a five-game road trip with stops in Washington, Tampa Bay, Florida, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. However, all five teams have shown leaks, and Hanzal's current form and cap relief are attractive.

W: Jaden Schwartz, St. Louis Blues, $5,300

The lengthy absence due to an ankle injury has Schwartz's cap hit way down and well within profit territory. There has been no sign of rust, though, as Schwartz has rattled off three goals and an assist through his four games back.

Interestingly, he has averaged just 22 seconds of power-play time per game since returning. Considering he had eight goals and eight helpers with the man advantage last season, he should work his way back into the mix sooner than later, which would also further boost his fantasy stock.

Finally, Schwartz's chemistry with Vladimir Tarasenko has long legs, and the duo boasts 3.41 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five through the past three seasons. The upcoming matchup against the Coyotes is an especially juicy spot to tee up Schwartz, but at his current salary, he's worth a look nightly.

D: Cam Fowler, Anaheim Ducks, $4,000

Another recent returnee from a lengthy injury absence, Fowler has found his form of late with six assists and nine shots through his past four games while skating an average of 21:54 per night, including 2:35 of power-play time.

Fowler's cross-category returns suit DraftKings scoring perfectly, as he has averaged more than a shot and a blocked shot per game in each season of his career. His shot volume this season is actually at a career high, too.

Add the dominant stretch Anaheim has put together (22-8-3) since the beginning of December, including averaging 2.78 goals per game, and there is a lot to like about Fowler until his cap hit begins to climb. It doesn't hurt that five of Anaheim's next six games are extremely favorable.

G: Joonas Korpisalo, Columbus Blue Jackets, $7,100

The rookie netminder has turned in an excellent 13-game stretch with an 8-2-3 record and a .939 save percentage, and Korpisalo has allowed two goals or fewer in 11 of those outings.

Indeed, the Blue Jackets have tightened up defensively, allowing just seven five-on-five goals through their past six games, and it's largely because of Korpisalo's play. The team has a 47.0 CorsiFor percentage during that span; meanwhile, the Finnish netminder has an impressive .951 save percentage at five-on-five, putting him in elite company.

The possession shortcomings should actually be viewed as a positive, though. Korpisalo projects to continue to see plenty of shots, and any time he can steal a win, he offers a huge fantasy return. Korpisalo checks out as a sound start Friday against Buffalo and a potential against-the-grain flier for tougher tests against Boston, Detroit and New Jersey.
