Stanley Cup Pick 'Em: The Writers Pick the Playoffs

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are here, and we polled our hockey writers for their picks.

Of the eight first-round matchups, only three provided consensus: Capitals over Flyers, Ducks over Predators and Stars over Wild.

Mark McLarney broke with the group in picking the Rangers over the Penguins, as did Andrew Fiorentino with the Islanders over the Panthers.

Only Evan Berofsky declined to pick the Capitals to win the Eastern Conference, going with the Red Wings instead. In the Western Conference, it's all Kings and Ducks, with the former getting a slight edge.

The Ducks, however, were the pick of three writers to win the Stanley Cup, while the Kings and Capitals each got two votes.

Losers will be noted as such.

COMMENTS

Mark McLarneyGo Caps!
Jan LevineGetzlaf and Perry cap brilliant postseason performances in the Finals. Getzlaf earns the Conn Smythe Trophy by averaging a point per game in the playoffs.
Andrew FiorentinoI would have picked the Rangers to win two rounds, but I didn't want to be a homer, so I picked them to win none.
Paul BrunoThis was my preseason prediction: Kings over Caps for the Cup.
Dan WaldnerThis is going to be a very gritty, physical and unsurprising playoffs. I have the favorites winning 15 of 16 matchups, which I think would be the highest percentage in history.
Jason ChenNot liable for any stress-induced illnesses.
Evan BerofskyGotta go with my (new) hometown Wings in Datsyuk's last hurrah. It's tempting to pick Chicago again, but the Ducks have been scary good the last few months. In the end, Anaheim will take a down a tired Detroit squad. Quack.
