FanDuel NHL: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

There are a whooping 13 games on the schedule Saturday. Here are some values and low-priced fliers to help fill out your FanDuel lineups.

GOALIE

Marc-Andre Fleury, PIT vs. ANA ($8,800): With a 39-save showing against Washington in the season opener, Fleury stole a game Pittsburgh maybe shouldn't have won. Enter the Ducks on the opposite side of the continent after scoring just two goals on 35 shots in their first game of the season. The goaltending pricing is tight, so Fleury shouldn't be highly owned, and he offers a slight discount at the position.

CENTER

Joe Thornton, SAN at CLM ($5,700): Columbus allowed six goals in its home opener, and now the Blue Jackets play host to the reigning Western Conference champions. Thornton plays all the top offensive minutes and registered a power-play assist with 3:07 of ice time with the man advantage in the first game of the season. He isn't a high-volume shooter or frequent goal scorer, but that's already more than built into his salary.

Mika Zibanejad, NYR at STL ($5,700):
Arguably the best player on either team in the opener against the Islanders, Zibanejad finished the outing with two helpers, three shots and 4:50 of power-play time. He's centering Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich, which is an intriguing trio with plenty of skill. St. Louis will also be playing its third game in four nights to start the season.

WINGER

Chris Kreider, NYR at STL ($5,900): As noted, the Blues are playing their third game in four nights to start the season, and backup Carter Hutton is expected to start. Kreider kick-started his season with seven shots, a goal and an assist, and he owns the power-speed combo to take advantage of a potentially tired lineup. Plus, Kreider is going to carry an extremely low ownership percentage.

David Pastrnak, BOS at TOR ($5,000):
A price jump usually follows a two-goal, two-assist, eight-shot showing, but Pastrnak's still presenting value given his top-line role. Toronto also surrendered five goals in its opener, and with six rookies in the lineup, should continue to be a team worth picking on.

Patrik Laine, WPG at MIN ($4,200):
In his NHL debut, Laine scored a goal and registered an assist with two shots on net. He was bumped to the top line alongside Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler in practice Friday, and even in a cavernous player pool, the rookie is close to a lineup lock given his role, talent and salary.

Mitchell Marner, TOR vs. BOS ($4,100):
Now with winger eligibility, Marner is much easier to accommodate in your lineups. He was dangerous throughout the opener and attempted 11 shots (registering six). This should be a high-event game with plenty of opportunities for Marner to notch his first point.

DEFENSE

Matt Niskanen, WAS vs. NYI ($4,200): The well-rounded defenseman offers some offensive upside with solid supporting statistics. Last year, Niskanen registered 150 shots and 145 blocked shots. He offers a solid fantasy floor with a touch of upside, which makes him a solid option if his salary fits your lineup assembly strategy.

Michael Matheson, FLA vs. DET ($3,500):
The rookie is a nice two-way rearguard with plenty of offensive potential. He played 22:12 in the season opener and picked up an assist and one shot on net. Matheson isn't going to grab oodles of power-play time, but this is a nice matchup to take a flier on his low salary. Detroit surrendered six goals in its opener, after all.
