FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Picks

FanDuel NHL: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

It's perhaps not surprising that six Canadian teams are in action on Tuesday. Americans might be kind of busy, on account of the election. However, with 10 games, you don't need to be a math genius to know 14 American teams are playing. Here are some players that can help:

GOALIE

Henrik Lundqvist, NYR vs. VAN ($9,100): There are no guarantees in the NHL, but Lundqvist feels pretty close to a lock to get a win. The Rangers have won five in a row and have been tearing it up offensively. The Canucks are last in the league in goal scoring and will be on the second night of a back-to-back. The fact there are a few goalies more expensive than Lundqvist almost makes him feel like a steal.

CENTER

Nathan MacKinnon, COL vs. ARI ($6,000): The Avalanche have actually been just as bad offensively as the Canucks, but they've got more talent at their disposal. MacKinnon only has one goal, but he's taken 32 shots on goal. The points will come, and are usually easy to come by against the Coyotes.

Travis Zajac, NJD vs. CAR ($4,400): The Devils also have their issues scoring, but the veteran Zajac has been looking pretty good. He's got eight points in 11 games, and he's playing about three minutes a night on the power play. The Hurricanes are another team with awful goaltending and goal prevention issues. Zajac is cheap, so you might as well see if Jersey can get their offense going.

WING

Brendan Gallagher, MON vs. BOS ($5,900): The Bruins will be on the second night of a back-to-back, which means Tuukka Rask will either have to play two nights in a row, or he won't be in net. Gallagher is having a solid campaign with nine points and 36 shots on goal. The matchup is probably driving his price down a bit, but the matchup may not be as bad as it seems on paper.

William Nylander, TOR vs. LOS ($5,000): While Peter Budaj has been playing decently (his save percentage is up to .912), he's still not a good goalie, and neither is Jeff Zatkoff. Nylander is averaging a point-per-game, and he's got seven points with the extra man. He's a dynamic player at a relatively low price, making him very enticing.

Gustav Nyquist, DET at PHI ($5,000): The Flyers are allowing 3.7 goals per game, and their goaltending has been arguably the weakest in the NHL. The Wings and Flyers played recently, with Detroit scoring three times. Nyquist has been pretty cold recently, but has nine points and is playing three minutes a night on the power play. All it takes is one hot game to end a cold stretch, and the Flyers are a prime team to be playing when you need to break through.

Jimmy Vesey, NYR vs. VAN ($4,900): While the Canucks don't struggle to prevent goals as much as they struggle to score them, there is reason to believe they won't be on top of their game on the second night of a back-to-back. The rookie Vesey has picked up his play of late, like a lot of Rangers have, and now has 10 points in 13 games. The Rangers are an offense you want to buy into right now, and Vesey is a cheaper option than others.

DEFENSEMEN

Alec Martinez, LOS at TOR ($4,700): While Martinez doesn't have the track record of Drew Doughty or Jake Muzzin, he's been the best blueliner for the Kings this season. He has nine points, and has taken 30 shots on goal while playing 23:25 a night, so it's not a total fluke. Toronto may be able to score, but they have a minus-4 goal differential because they also struggle to stop opponents from scoring. As long as Martinez is playing well, he's worth the price in this matchup.

John Klingberg, DAL at WPG ($5,100): Klingberg only has two goals, but has five assists after 48 last season. More importantly, he's skating 23:36 a night and 4:11 on the power play. He's the clear top defenseman for the Stars, and the Jets have allowed 3.2 goals per game. Klingberg is also playing better recently, so he could be ready to start posting similar numbers to last year.
