FanDuel NHL: Sunday Values

FanDuel NHL: Sunday Values

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

It's a rare busy Sunday slate with seven games on tap. Only four of the league's top ten scorers will be hitting the ice, but there's still plenty of options beyond that.

The Red Wings-Islanders matchup will be the only one to not feature a single player who has scored more than 20 points, and with both teams struggling at one end or the other, it's advisable to stay away from such an unpredictable matchup.

GOALIE

Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB at CAR ($8,600) – The Bolts halted their four-game slide with a 2-1 win over Washington on Saturday, and they're hoping Vasilevskiy can turn the corner, too, after allowing nine goals in his past two appearances. It should be an easy task against Carolina, whose 57 goals scored is the worst output in the Metropolitan Division. Scoring has been a huge problem lately, as Bill Peters' squad has scored just five goals in their past three games and No. 1 defenseman Justin Faulk is in a funk (seven games without a point).

Petr Mrazek, DET at NYI ($8,000) – He's been hard to trust this season but when his team needs him most he's usually pulled through, like last year when he emerged as a viable No. 1 goalie when Jimmy Howard faltered. There's been a little déjà vu recently with Mrazek allowing just five goals in his past three games and posting a save percentage of .917 or better each time. The Wings allowed five goals against Pittsburgh

The Wings allowed five goals against Pittsburgh on Saturday, but the Islanders' offense isn't nearly as frightening.

CENTER

Connor McDavid, EDM vs. MIN ($8,600) – He'll be going up against one of the league's best goalies this season in Devan Dubnyk, but you can't pick against the league's leading scorer and his electrifying talent.

Bryan Little, WPG at CHI ($5,200) – He's the best bargain because you're getting Winnipeg's top center for the price of a second-line player. He scored a goal and an assist filling in for Mark Scheifele (undisclosed) with Patrik Laine and Nikolaj Ehlers on his wings, and has the offensive ability to produce consistently even though he's been used in a lot of defensive situations and matchups in recent years. There's a number of elite centers that will hit the ice Sunday that are worthy of roster spots, but Little provides a lot of upside at a big discount.

WING

Patrick Kane, CHI vs. WPG ($8,500) – The upside of picking a guy like Kane is that you'll have one of the league's best scorers on your roster, but the downside is that most DFS entries will have him in the lineup, which means he likely won't be a big difference-maker when it comes to winning or losing. The Blackhawks and Jets are both offensive teams with a lot of firepower, and rather than try and lock each other down they might just turn the game into a horse race and see who can score more goals. That type of game is a perfect for Kane.

Nikita Kucherov, TB at CAR ($7,800) – Considering that Tampa Bay's league-best power play and Carolina's league-best penalty kill makes special teams a wash, it's worth noting that Kucherov has also been an offensive force with 18 points in November. Just nine of his 29 points have come with the man advantage, so even if the Bolts don't get many opportunities on the power play, he should remain very effective.

Jakub Voracek, PHI at NSH ($7,000) – Defense hasn't exactly been Nashville's strong suit for some time, and their 2.61 goals allowed per game – 15th in the league – is still something that needs improvement. After a bit of line shuffling to begin the season and questions about whether or not Voracek would bounce back after a tough year, he's been a staple on Claude Giroux's line once again and has 22 points in 26 games.

Patrik Laine, WPG at CHI ($6,900) – He's just 18 years old but has taken the league by storm and is tied with Sidney Crosby for the league lead in goals with 16. He has the occasional off-game, but he's too good for that to happen very often. Little isn't as good as Scheifele at feeding pucks to Laine's wheelhouse, but it seems like as long as the puck is within Laine's reach, he'll find a way to get it to the back of the net.

DEFENSE

P.K. Subban, NSH vs. PHI ($6,700) – Subban is the most expensive defenseman on the slate but it's fair since he rarely goes a game without registering a single shot. He's such a dynamic offensive player that if a shooting lane isn't immediately available, he looks to create his own. The Flyers have blocked 415 shots this season –- fifth-best in the league –- but it's also because they've already coughed up the puck 239 times and have resorted to stacking bodies in front of their net. That said, the Predators should be able to generate a lot of offense, and there's a good chance Subban will be involved.

Dustin Byfuglien, WPG at CHI ($6,300) – There's plenty of good defensemen available Sunday, but Byfuglien is hot with an assist in each of his past three games and has always played well against his former team with 13 points in 17 career games. He's also logging a lot of minutes recently and he'll be difficult to defense without Jonathan Toews in the lineup.
