Gets back on winning track
HeavyweightPFL
April 16, 2017
Ishii defeated Heath Herring via unanimous decision at Rizin 5 FF on Sunday morning.
ANALYSIS
Ishii had been on a three fight losing streak that included defeats at the hands of Muhammed Lawal and Rampage Jackson, but the 30-year-old was able to get back in the win column Sunday. He was in control for the entirety of the bout, but disappointingly was unable to secure a finish. Nonetheless, the win improves his professional record to 15-7.

Continues to struggle in Bellator
HeavyweightPFL
December 16, 2016
Ishii lost to Muhammed Lawal via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at Bellator 169 on Friday in Dublin.
ANALYSIS
The story on Ishii has been the same since his MMA debut. When he can bully and grind his opponent, he can win dominating yet not exciting decisions. When his opponents can grapple or control distance, he struggles. Ishii is a good enough athlete to stay in bouts against high level fighters, but he can't ever get rolling. In this fight, he had nothing for Lawal in terms of striking, and he could not land takedowns against the veteran wrestler. When he made his debut, Ishii was seen as a potential savior of Japanese MMA, but he has continually fallen short of that status.
