Chinzo Machida

Falls in round one via submission at Bellator 180

June 24, 2017
Machida lost James Gallagher via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:22 Round 1 at Bellator 180 on Saturday in New York City.
ANALYSIS
Machida has never been as good as a fighter as his brother. He was an underdog for a reason in this fight, and it showed. Gallagher took him down almost immediately, moved to the back and finished the fight via submission. Machida fell to 5-3 as a professional with this loss. At 40 years old, he will probably never make a run at a Bellator title, but he will probably stick around due to his name.

To fight at Bellator 180
FeatherweightBellator
March 27, 2017
Machida will fight James Gallagher at Bellator 180 in June, Shaheen Al-Shatti of MMAfighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Machida has put together two straight wins, with a victory over Jamar Ocampo at Bellator 170 in January and a win over Mario Navarro at Bellator 160 in August of 2016. At age 40, Machida will have the experience edge over James Gallagher, who checks in at just 20 years old, but will still have to match the energy of a younger fighter, which could pose a challenge. Gallagher is coming off two straight victories of his own, both by submission, so Machida will have to avoid Gallagher's strong ground game if possible.
Scores come-from-behind KO win

Machida defeated Jamar Ocampo via KO (punch) at 3:48 of Round 3 at Bellator 170 in Inglewood, Calif. on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Machida spent the majority of this fight trying to avoid the submission game of Ocampo. He was not able to keep the fight on the feet, but he was able to stay out of danger on the ground. When he was able to get distance, his karate style striking was clearly giving Ocampo problems. Once Ocampo began to tire in the third round, Machida found his opening and landed a solid punch that dropped Ocampo. With the victory, Machida improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Bellator, but will need to improve his defensive wrestling to continue winning at this level.
Victorious in Bellator debut

Machida defeated Marlo Navarro via TKO (punches) at 2:47 of round 1 at Bellator 160 on Saturday in Anaheim.
ANALYSIS
Up until Friday, Machida was likely better known for being the brother of UFC legend Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida. Now, the older brother finally got his chance to shine on the big stage, coming away with a convincing victory in his Bellator debut. At 39 years old, however, it is likely too late for Chinzo to make a championship run.
