2015 Fantasy Racing Outlook

The move to Chevrolet and getting engines from ECR last season seemed to pay immediate dividends. Mearsí three Top-10 finishes and average finish of 22.3 were his best totals since 2009. He finished 26th in the final driver standings, which is where he has averaged finishing the last three years. With the team returning intact with the same sponsorship, crew chief and support as last year, we could see some more incremental improvement for Mears. Generally speaking, the super speedways were his best tracks and thatís where he claimed all three Top 10ís last season. The new season should be close to a carbon-copy of the recent past. Mears doesnít qualify the greatest, but he makes way to avoid DNFís and generally finish on the lead lap most weeks. Thatís valuable performance this deep in the driver field.

Mears and Germain Racing are off to a blazing start in the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Save for a distressing Duel 150, the GEICO team scored top finishes during Speedweeks and, more notably, managed to cruise through ten practice sessions, Daytona 500 qualifying, a short-lived Duel 150 and a 507.5-mile race without damaging a single racecar. While their fourth-place finish in the Sprint Unlimited and the sixth-place Daytona 500 result is impressive, most impressive is the fact that they escaped the World Center of Racing unscathed, germainracing.com reports.
