One of Canada's most exciting NASCAR Canadian Tire Series drivers - Fitzpatrick - is calling it quits and returning to grass roots late model racing, the Toronto Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
After several seasons of spot-racing in NASCAR's lower divisions and dominating in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Fitzpatrick will return to the racing roots from where he came. Unfortunately, the lack of big sponsorship dollars has led to the decision to return to late model stock racing. Fitzpatrick won 11 races and collected 64 Top-10 finishes over eight years of racing in the Canadian Tire Series.

Fitzpatrick is a free agent driver in 2015.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series star made a handful of starts in the truck series in 2012. Fitzpatrick doesn't have any concrete plans as of January 2013, but we expect to see him pop up a few times during the year mostly at the road courses. As always, the Canadian will make steady starts at the winding road circuits.

Fitzpatrick has severed his connection with Toronto financier Steve Meehan's GO Canada Racing Team. Fitzpatrick notified the motorsport media Thursday evening that he will no longer drive for the No. 67 Nationwide car and will concentrate in the meantime on the Canadian Tire Series, the Toronto Sun reports.
