Moriah Jefferson: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

September 2, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) will not be available to participate in Saturday's season finale against the Fever.

Jefferson will miss her fifth consecutive game to end the season due to knee soreness. She will finish the season with an average of 9.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.5 steals across 24.5 minutes per game.

September 1, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) will not play Friday against the Liberty.

Jefferson continues to battle soreness in her right knee, and Friday will mark her fourth consecutive absence. Her next opportunity to return will come Saturday in the Stars' season-closing matchup with the Fever in Indianapolis.

August 25, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) will be sidelined for Friday's matchup against the Lynx.

Friday will mark the third straight game that Jefferson has missed, though she should still likely be considered day-to-day, as the Stars continue to list the injury as just soreness. With Jefferson, and her workload of 24.5 minutes per game, unavailable, the likes of Kayla McBride, Alex Montgomery and Kelsey Plum will seemingly continue to see more touches.

August 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Sparks.

Jefferson will be missing her second consecutive game, though the Stars continue to list the injury as just soreness, so it doesn't seem overly concerning. Still, with averages of 9.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.5 steals across 24.5 minutes, the Stars will be without a key contributor Tuesday. With Jefferson not available, look for the likes of Kayla McBride, Alex Montgomery and Kelsey Plum to shoulder the load in the backcourt.

August 18, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson will not play during Friday's matchup against the Storm due to right knee soreness.

Jefferson missed two contests starting in late July while dealing with a knee injury and it appears that some pain has flared up, causing her to be absent from Friday's tilt. As a result, Alex Montgomery and Kelsey Plum will likely see additional touches.

August 13, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) returned to the lineup for Saturday's 68-84 win over the Dream, recording 14 points (6-9 FG, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, two assists, three steals, one block and one turnover across 16 minutes.

After missing the team's last two games with a sore right knee, Jefferson was eased back into the action Saturday, playing just 16 minutes compared to her season average of 24.5 per game. She came out firing and was super efficient offensively, however, hitting 66 percent of her shot attempts. A solid two-way player for the Stars, Jefferson should see an uptick in minutes as she gets further away from her injury, so it will be something to monitor in the lead-up to the playoffs.

August 10, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson will be sidelined for Thursday's matchup against the Sky due to right knee soreness.

Jefferson was held out of Sunday's game against the Mercury due to knee soreness, but played during Tuesday's game against the Liberty. She may have aggravated the knee, however, so she'll take the night off Thursday against the Sky. Alex Montgomery and Kelsey Plum figure to see extra touches as a result.

August 3, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson returned to action Tuesday against the Liberty and finished with eight points and five assists.

Jefferson was held out of action Sunday against Phoenix due to soreness in her right knee, but the ailment doesn't appear to be anything overly concerning. The former UConn star recorded at least five assists for the fourth time in five games.

July 30, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson is dealing with right knee soreness and has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Mercury, Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press reports.

This is the first we've heard of Jefferson's injury and the fact that it's being listed as soreness likely means it's nothing too serious. Still, she'll have to sit out Sunday's contest and her next opportunity to play will come on Tuesday against the Liberty. Look for Kelsey Plum to jump in the starting lineup in her place, which should give her a boost in fantasy value for the time being.

July 22, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson -- at the All-Star break -- is posting 10.3 points, 4.6 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals across 25.7 minutes per game.

Jefferson is both an elite distributor and defender in her role. She's fifth in the WNBA in assists per 40 minutes (7.2) and third in the league in steals per 40 minutes (2.8) for players who have appeared in at least 10 contests. While she only sees 25.7 minutes per game, limiting her upside, she can still produce fantastic games. For example, on June 25 against the Lynx, Jefferson contributed 19 points, eight assists, four steals and one rebound across 36 minutes of action. So, while she isn't in the upper tier of fantasy options, she's certainly worthy of consideration when constructing a DFS lineup.

July 17, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (concussion) had eight points (4-6 FG), three assists, one steal and three turnovers across 20 minutes during Sunday's 75-89 loss to the Sun.

Jefferson missed the team's previous two contests with a concussion, but was back in the lineup Sunday, albeit in a bench role. She showed now signs of any lingering issues and was quite efficient, shooting 66 percent from the field for eight points in limited action. Jefferson has started five of 14 games this season, but it remains to be seen if she'll reclaim that role from No. 1 overall pick Kelsey Plum, who filled in with the top unit on Sunday. Jefferson has averaged 10.6 points, 1.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.7 steals across 25.6 minutes per game this season.

July 15, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (concussion) expects to play Sunday against the Sun, Paul Doyle of the Hartford Courant reports.

Jefferson has missed the past two games as a result of going through the league's concussion protocol, but expects to return to action Sunday against the Sun. Over her past five appearances, Jefferson has averaged 11.2 points, 5.8 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 boards across 27.0 minutes per game.

July 7, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson is going through concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Mercury.

Jefferson left Wednesday's game with the head injury, and she'll now be held out until she can be symptom-free for at least 24 hours. In her absence, rookie Kelsey Plum could be in line to see extended minutes, as she performed admirably when Jefferson went down Wednesday, scoring 11 points in 23 minutes.

July 5, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson suffered a head contusion during Wednesday's game against the Sun and will not return.

The exact severity of the injury remains unclear, but she'll likely be evaluated further for a concussion since she took a shot to the head. Additional tests should be performed after the game, which should give us a better indication on whether or not she'll miss additional time. Jefferson finished Wednesday's game with six points (3-5 FG, 0-2 FT), three rebounds, two assists and one turnover across 18 minutes. She can be considered questionable for Friday's tilt with the Mercury.

June 27, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson registered a team-high 19 points (8-14 FG, 3-4 FT), along with a rebound, eight assists, and four steals across 35 minutes in Sunday's loss against the Lynx.

Jefferson has greatly increased her scoring production since the start of the season, as she's now consistently scoring in the double-figures. The guard also tied her season-high in rebounds on Sunday and is looking to increase her current average of 1.7 rebounds per tilt. The second-year Star is currently averaging 11 points and 4.4 assists across 26.3 minutes, which makes her rookie season to be a more productive one so far.

June 21, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson finished with 16 points (7-14 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six assists and three steals across 32 minutes during Wednesday's 81-78 loss to the Wings.

With rookie guard Kelsey Plum drawing the start but playing just eight minutes, room opened up in the Stars' rotation for Jefferson to see 32 minutes during Wednesday's loss and perform well on both sides of the rock. Jefferson's workload has been spotty all season, though she's shown an ability to play big when given big minutes as of late. Overall, she's a somewhat high-risk/high-reward DFS option at the moment due to her inconsistent time on the floor.

June 19, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson recorded seven points, one rebound, one assist and two steals across 22 minutes in Sunday's loss to the Storm.

After back-to-back games with at least 30 minutes played and a combined 42 points, Jefferson went back to her regular, modest load off the bench and her production dropped significantly as a result. The Stars gave rookie Kelsey Plum another chance with extended minutes, but she ended up shooting just 2-of-11 from the field. Look for Jefferson's minutes load to potentially return back up to around 30 minutes if Plum continues to struggle in her rookie season.

June 16, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson posted a season-high 24 points (8-11 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 4-5 FT), three rebounds, three assists and two steals across 35 minutes in Thursday's loss to the Sparks.

Jefferson has become the focal point of the Stars' offense as of late despite the fact that she is still coming off the bench. The second-year guard has now scored a combined 42 points while shooting an impressive 16-of-23 (69.6 percent) over her last two contests. She's also taken away a lot of minutes from rookie Kelsey Plum, who played just five minutes Thursday, and Jefferson could be thrust into the starting lineup shortly if she continues to produce at a high level.

June 11, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson had 18 points (8-12 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, four assists, five steals and two turnovers across 31 minutes during Saturday's 85-81 overtime loss to the Sky.

Jefferson's performance Saturday was far and away her best of the season thus far, notching season highs in both points and steals. She was extremely efficient overall, shooting 67 percent from the field and hitting her only three-point attempt, so if she can stay this hot, it would do wonders for her fantasy value moving forward. Jefferson boasts averages of 8.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game and if she continues to play this well, Jefferson could see a bigger workload in subsequent contests.

June 8, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson tallied 10 points (5-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds, five assists and one turnover across 22 minutes during Tuesday's 85-76 loss to the Storm.

Jefferson reached double-digit points for the first time this season, as she took a season-high 11 shot attempts and converted on five of them. She's combined for 19 attempts from the floor over the last two games and it appears she's doing everything in her power to become more of a factor offensively. Jefferson is also a decent source of assists, but her fantasy value would see a significant bump if she was able to see a bigger workload on a night-to-night basis. As of now, she's averaging just 23.1 minutes per game off the bench.

May 30, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson accumulated four points (2-7 FG), eight assists, three rebounds and one steal across 32 minutes during Sunday's 80-66 loss to the Lynx.

Jefferson has played in just two games so far this season, as she was dealing with right knee soreness to start the year. She's gotten off to a slow start in the scoring department, averaging just 6.5 points per game, but has been her usual self when it comes to handing out assists (5.5) and racking up steals (2.5). Last season, during her rookie campaign, Jefferson averaged 13.9 points, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals across 30.4 minutes per game. Assuming she can hang around those types of numbers this season, she should be a solid fantasy option.

May 25, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) will play in Thursday's game against the Wings, Russell Steinberg of The Summitt reports.

Jefferson missed the first three games of the regular season with right knee soreness, but the second-year guard is set to make her debut alongside 2017 No. 1 overall pick Kelsey Plum. It'll be the first time the young backcourt will see the floor together, although Jefferson may be limited given that it is her first real action of the year.

May 19, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) will not play in Friday's game against the Mercury.

The Stars will once again be shorthanded with rookie Kelsey Plum (ankle) also ruled out for the third straight contest. The good news for Jefferson is that the team will now have nearly a week off before taking the floor once again Thursday, so she'll have plenty of time to nurse her right knee soreness. With the absence of both Jefferson and Currie, Monique Jefferson remains a valuable play Friday, as she is averaging 27.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in extended minutes off the bench through her first two contests.

May 14, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Mystics, SummittHoops.com reports.

With the Stars not playing again until Friday against the Mercury, they'll play it safe with Jefferson and give her some extra recovery time to get over the soreness in her right knee. With Kelsey Plum (ankle) also sidelined, the Stars are expected to be shorthanded Sunday, which should open extra minutes elsewhere on the roster. In Saturday's tilt with the Liberty, it was Isabelle Harrison and Monique Currie who stepped up, scoring 15 and 23 points, respectively, off the bench.

May 13, 2017

RotoWire Fantasy Analysis

Jefferson will not play in Saturday's season opener against the Liberty due to right knee soreness, The Summit reports.

Jefferson will be sidelined due to a knee issue, so her season debut will have to wait. The team may be opting to be cautions with her, as they will be playing the second half of a back-to-back set Sunday against the Mystics. Jefferson tallied 13.9 points, 2.1 boards, 4.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.0 triples across 30.4 per game in 2016.
