Loses in return from long layoff
Azaitar lost to Sedriques Dumas via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 294 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Azaitar is now 37 years of age. He hadn't fought since March 2021 and had competed just twice dating back to October 2016. So while he lost, all things considered, he looked pretty good. Abu spent the opening round on his back, but managed to remain upright over the course of the final ten minutes. He was clearly the more effective striker in Round 2, while the final frame was much closer. It's surprising all three judges scored the fight for Dumas, as Azaitar was competitive over the final ten minutes. Nonetheless, there's clearly limited upside here given Abu's advanced age and typical inactivity.

Azaitar lost to Marc-Andre Barriault via TKO (punches) at 4:56 of Round 3 at UFC 260 on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Azaitar started off quickly, clearly getting the better of Barriault in a back-and-forth Round 1. It was all downhill from there. Azaitar quickly gassed out and found himself on the receiving end of countless unanswered shots from his opponent. Valel should have stopped the fight a couple minutes earlier before finally pulling the plug with a mere four seconds left. Azaitar hadn't fought since July 2018 prior to Saturday and looked the part of a guy who spent more than two and a half years on the sidelines.
