Campbell may be back on track to be an impact player in the majors after showing improved plate discipline, along with continued power, after a disastrous 2007. Campbell was once regarded as the third baseman of the future for the Braves, but his stock took a serious hit in 2007 with a poor year at the plate, two trips to the DL and his second significant suspension. He missed much of the first half due to his 2007 suspension, but was healthy in the second half and hit 19 home runs in just 88 games. If he can stay healthy and avoid off-field issues, a strong season at Double-A could put him in contention for a big league job in 2010.
Campbell was once regarded as the third baseman of the future for the Braves, but his stock took a serious hit last season with a poor year at the plate, two trips to the DL and his second significant suspension. He struggled by hitting just .221/.312/406 with 14 home runs at High-A Myrtle Beach while dealing with a thumb injury. He was then suspended in August for the rest of the season for an insubordinate act (he was also sent home from his club the previous offseason in the Hawaiian Winter League). While he could use better plate discipline, his strikeout rate is fairly low and he has a quick bat and developing power. While his off-field problems may hinder his rise in the organization, a rebound season could make him a factor in the majors in 2009.
Campbell hit .296/.335/.517 for Low-A Rome and could be a rising star in the Braves organization. While he could use better plate discipline, his strikeout rate is fairly low and he has a quick bat and developing power. He could make an impact in the majors in 2008.
