2012

Treanor signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers, presumably to be the backup catcher, after spending 2011 with both the Royals and Rangers. There's nothing to get excited about here, though one would expect him to dominate the husband/wife volleyball tournament wherever he goes (wife is Misty May). The 36-year-old veteran gets on base at an acceptable clip because of his ability to draw walks, but he doesn't offer enough pop to consider him as a second catcher even in deep formats.

2011

Treanor was the Rangers' default catcher when all other options were either hurt or ineffective prior to the acquisition of Bengie Molina, racking up 237 at-bats but hitting just .211/.287/.308. He re-signed with the team on a one-year deal this winter, and he'll begin the year as the backup to Yorvit Torrealba. He's more valuable to the Rangers as a good veteran backstop who handles the team's pitching staff well than he is to fantasy owners trying to fill two catcher spots even in deeper leagues.

2010

Treanor was slotted in to be Detroit's backup catcher for the 2009 season before missing the entire season due to a hip injury. He'll compete for a backup job with the Brewers this spring.

2009

The improvement he showed at the plate in 2007 turned out to be an illusion, and Treanor returned to his light-hitting backup catcher ways. His defensive reputation should ensure he gets a job somewhere in just such a role, but his days as even a platoon starter are probably done.Treanor will work as the backup catcher behind Gerald Laird in Detroit this season after signing a one-year deal with the Tigers in December. With eight homers in 723 career at-bats (.237 average), there's little value here even as a $1 endgame option in deeper leagues. 2008

Treanor's bat woke up a little bit, as he added 40 points to his batting average and almost 80 to his SLG from 2006. He's still nothing more than a solid backup catcher, but given the Marlins' aim to spend as little as possible on the 2008 roster they aren't likely to add a legitimate starter at the position, so expect Treanor to set a career high again in at-bats.

2007

Treanor offers everything a team on a budget could want in a backup catcher. He's well-liked in the locker room, the pitchers are comfortable with the way he calls a game, he throws out his share of base-stealers, and he'll never hit well enough to demand a big payday.

2006

He offers nothing with the bat, but the Marlins brought Treanor back anyway to provide a tiny bit of veteran stability behind Josh Willingham.

2005

For the third straight year he put up good numbers at Triple-A, but his skill set doesn't translate well to the majors -- big league pitchers have no reason not to challenge him, and he can't work the count for walks. He could open the year as Paul LoDuca's main backup, but the Marlins should be looking for an upgrade.
