2009
Duran failed to show the same power he flashed in 2007, hitting just one homer in 77 at-bats at Triple-A Oklahoma City and just three homers in 143 at-bats with Texas. A torn thumb ligament sidelined him for two months in the middle of the season, but the power shown in 2007 wasn't seen before or since and his poor 2008 season should have him sliding back on most prospect lists. His ability to play third base gives him the edge over Joaquin Arias if Texas wants to go that route when hunting for a utility infielder, but Duran may be better served trying to get back on track in the minors.
2008
Duran showed a noticeable power spike at Double-A Frisco in 2007, swatting 22 home runs in 480 at-bats after just 13 home runs in 457 at-bats the year before at High-A Bakersfield. There's a not-so-nice 34:77 BB:K ratio under the covers that could result in some power loss as he advances, and he's blocked in Texas by another 20-20 threat at second base in Ian Kinsler, so it's hard to see just what the future will hold.
