2013
There was no outlook written for Edwin Maysonet.
2010
Maysonet got a chance to assume the Astros' utility infielder spot in May, after the team demoted Jason Smith. He was white hot in his first extended taste of big league ball, going 9-for-his-first-20, and ending June with a .315/.356/.407 line. The team sent him back down to Triple-A after they activated Kaz Matsui, but the 27-year-old infielder held his own over a season of bouncing around between Houston and Round Rock. He projects more as a jack-of-all-trades super-sub than as a major league regular. He’ll get an opportunity to break camp with the team, but it would take a poor start from Tommy Manzella to put him into serious contention for the starting shortstop job.
2009
Maysonet, a 27-year-old shortstop, spent the majority of last year with Triple-A Round Rock, hitting .271/.343/.379 with six homers, 24 doubles and 34 RBI in 406 at-bats. Although he’s shown an ability to put the ball in play (he struck out just 70 times last year), the fact that he’s 27 and currently blocked by Miguel Tejada does not bode well for his future. He did get called up in September, going 1-for-7 in very limited action. Expect him to start the year at Round Rock.
