2005
After hitting .326 in the spring to earn a roster spot, Lankford bolted out of the gates, hitting .429 with four doubles and two home runs over the first seven games. Not unexpectedly, he couldn't keep up the pace and by August was accepting a trip to the minors. A September call-up was plagued by wrist problems. Age (he'll be 38 this June) and health have turned him into less than a shadow of his former productive self.
2003
Long impotent against left-handers, Lankford struggled against right-handers as well before going on the 60-day DL with a hamstring injury. The most he can hope for is a platoon role, and he might have to settle for signing a minor league deal.
