Peters is 30 and has a career MLB ERA of 4.81 in 380 innings, mostly with the Pirates from 1996-99. He’s been hurt the past two years, but he’s an Experienced Lefty, so he was bound to get a shot with someone. Cam Bonifay was the Pirates GM then, and he’s now Tampa Bay's farm director, so that’s probably the connection here. Not likely to see the bigs in 2003.
