Slumps, injuries, and trades created the opportunity for Gonzalez to get 217 at-bats in 2003. He is a decent fourth outfielder but after struggling against both lefties (.240) and righties (.223) in 2003, don�t look for him to receive extended playing time in 2004, barring more of the same from those ahead of him on the depth chart.

2003

Gonzalez came over from the Reds and did a complete turnaround with the Mets. He went from hitting righties well (.313) and struggling against lefties (.143), to hitting lefties well (.308) and struggling against righties (.236). Of course, this was in limited at bats in both cases, which is what he'll get again. His upside is as a fourth outfielder.
