2009
The Yankees eventually turned to Giese when injuries decimated their rotation and the ineffectiveness of more highly-touted options created a revolving door for starting spots. A 31-year-old journeyman with minimal major league experience, Giese actually fared well in three starts (.190 BAA, 3.78 ERA) and was useable out of the bullpen as well. He'll have to compete for a spot as a long man/innings eater during spring training, after the Yankees revamped their rotation during free agency to ensure a repeat of 2008 doesn't happen.
