RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Chris Waters.
Waters filled in as a starter when injuries took their toll on the rotation, but he was designated for assignment after the season ended. That means he won't be on Baltimore's 40-man roster, but assuming he accepts a minor league assignment he could find his way back in 2010. However, this year the Orioles appear to be stocked with younger talent worthy of looks in the rotation, so he shouldn't be much of a factor.
After being drafted by the Braves in 2000 Waters took the road less traveled, taking eight years to reach the majors. His debut was unforgettable and some even took a bite in fantasy following eight innings of one-hit ball on the road against the Angels. Those who knew better stayed away, as Waters finished with an ERA of 5.01 and a 1.53 WHIP. He will compete for a rotation spot in 2009, but then again, who won't? He has not been successful in the minors and there is no reason to believe he can turn it around in the majors at age 28.
Waters' development stalled at Double-A Greenville and he'll need a strong season to get consideration for the next level.
