RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Bo Hart.
The 29-year-old Hart is a gritty, hard-nosed player who will always wow you more with his hustle than his ability. He'll compete for a utility role in spring training with the Cardinals, but chances are he'll have to go to a different organization to land a roster spot.
Hart was a great story in 2003 when injuries at the major-league level put the 27-year old minor leaguer in the everyday major-league lineup. He had a better season in 2004, but it wasn't as noticeable because the Cardinals didn't suffer the same calamities at the top. Hart has shown who he is for two seasons in Triple-A -- he's a gutty player who won't kill you at the plate but won't win many games for you either. He can play a nice second and will likely see time at short and third if he turns into the utility player he will need to be to make it in the majors.
A crew cut goes a long way in a town where they still love Whitey Herzog. Hart doesn't bring much more to the table, however, and lived for three months off a one-week hot streak after his call-up. At best, he's a fantasy reserve.
