Stansberry agreed to a minor league contract with the Blue Jays on Wednesday, Baseball America's Matt Eddy reports.
ANALYSIS
Stansberry hit .260 with eight home runs and 32 RBI in 114 games with Triple-A Portland last season. He has appeared in just one major league game since 2009, so his chances of making a fantasy impact are minimal.

The highlight of Stansberry's 2008 campaign was a short midseason callup where he hit .375 in 16 at bats. Previous to that, he struggled a bit at Triple-A Portland, and after, he broke a bone in his left hand, ending his season in early August. Stansberry's defensive versatility and good plate discipline will enable him to have a career as a utility infielder, but anything more is a stretch.
Stansberry is a decent prospect with some pop for a middle infielder. He homered 14 times and knocked in 75 runs for Triple-A Portland last year. He's back on the Padres' radar screen after a disappointing 2006, but it would be a surprise if he occupies a substantial major league role in 2008.
Stansberry, 25, suffered a bit of a power outage in 2006, dropping from 21 homers in 2005 to 13 home runs last year. Because he doesn't hit for average (a combined .243 in 2006), Stansberry needs to show he has the power to make it to the major leagues. A disappointing fall league performance didn't help his cause much, and the Pirates designated him for assignment in December. Stansberry batted just .128 in the AFL, hitting only one homer to go along with nine RBI. The College World Series star will need a strong season to regain some of the prospect luster he's lost over the last year or so.
Stansberry is one of the few remaining Pittsburgh prospects that didn't play for the Pirates in 2005. The 24-year-old second baseman spent most of his season with Double-A Altoona, where he hit .238 with 16 home runs, 67 RBI and 14 steals in 116 games. His long-term path at second base is blocked by Jose Castillo, so it's conceivable the team could have him switch positions at some point. Stansberry will likely start the season at Triple-A.
